The reason the throttle is at 100% is because the stall characteristics of this plane.  I know my flying style treats the ESC as a soft on/off switch. 8)  The stall speed appears to be somewhere between 99% and 99.9% throttle so 100% is marginally safe. Remember, my job is to take this plane off the ground and return it to "terra very firma" in one piece. 
Just doing as I am instructed to do.  We already have enough subjects for the repair classes. :D
