Dear Friends,

As communicated at the Pilot's Meeting last night, it is with regret that I need to inform you that I will be stepping down as President of TEMAC at the end of this year.

For personal reasons, I have been unable to volunteer the time necessary to do my job on the board with the thoroughness I would like. In addition, I do not feel that I have been well equipped to properly handle issues as they have arisen.

This was not an easy decision to make, on my part. I became President in Summer 2012, and must say that the past seven years as President have been very rewarding. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with you, observing how our club has grown and matured and I feel that we have achieved a lot:

•   Financially sound (thank you Andy)
•   Established our own website (thank you Ben Feist)
•   Excellent events and flight training program (thanks Greg H, Mike H, Michael, Frank and Bruce.)
•   Winter meetings and build classes (thanks Frank, Michael and Robert Pike.)
•   New runway & field improvements (driveway, parking, pilot stations fence, loo - thanks Bill & Graham)
•   Relationship with Ryerson (thanks Frank)
•   Recognized the unique contribution that the Morning Crew makes to the Club
•   Quad and FPV flying successfully incorporated (thanks Stephan, Eric & Peter)
•   Established a car track (thanks Vic and Greg C)
•   Hosted 2 MAAC zone meetings
•   Participated in Doors Open

During my last months as President, I will continue to support the Club and complete my duties (Ticklers, slide show, AGM, MAAC meeting attendance etc.)  I will also prepare material and do everything possible to support my successor.

The Board will communicate with everyone at a later stage, to determine which of the 2 options to replace me, according to our Bylaws, you wish to follow.

I'm very happy & comfortable that we have stayed true to our Mission (Provide a nice place to fly and have fun with friends and provide proper instruction for student pilots) and Values (Have Fun, Be Safe & Be Courteous) during my tenure.  My challenge to my successor is to keep our Club a friendly, courteous & safe place, with no cliques.  :)

I wish our Club continued success, and will remain an active member. Thank you all so very much for your support over the last 7 years.

Sincerely,
Simon

You've been a terrific club president and your enthusiasm for the club and model flying has been contagious. It's sad that a difficult period in your life has made it so you cannot continue, since I know that you are leaving the post with a heavy heart. In similar circumstances, any one of us would do the exact same thing, because taking care of the people we love is our number one duty in life.

Takeoffs are optional. Landings are mandatory.

Simon,

Thanks for dedicating 7 years of your spare time and thanks for making, and keeping, TEMAC a fun place to fly ... all while trying to balance work and personal issues.  The consummate juggler.  It is very interesting how TEMAC keeps attracting interesting people thanks to the tone and manner you and many people have set over the years.  Also thanks for helping shape Michael's little personal venture when he started the Club and making it into a respected home of electric knowledge.

Happy flying.

The end of an era! You've certainly set the tone for the club, even before you were president. I hope you continue to do so now as a member.

Simon,

I for one believe this isn't the end of an era!  I think your involvement in the club has just raised the bar that much higher for others to strive for who will take on your role and responsibilities.

You, the Board of Directors and its' founding members have made TEMAC the most enjoyable volunteer based organization I have ever been involved with.  As a member of the Morning Crew, I know for a fact that we as members feel this way.  From our perspective, it is so nice to be able to fully enjoy the hobby and our friends without having to deal with the many unnecessary distractions that you and others have managed selflessly to overcome and control behind the scenes.

Your dedication to the hobby, its membership and the sense of belonging you have instilled within the club will carry TEMAC forward, provided we all continue to follow your lead.

Thank you.

Bruce
