Caution: Brushless motors on your work bench
« on: March 31, 2020, 10:16:50 pm »
Just had a close call with an E-Flite 180 brushless motor.  It spun fine in my hand when I got it from the drawer.  When I soldered on the connectors and connected it, it would not spin by hand.

Looked at it under the magnifying glass and saw metal parts jamming the magnets inside the bell.
I carefully picked out two small metal parts using a small pin to push it up, medical clamps to grab it and stronger magnets to pull out metal filings.

The motor must have picked it up from my desk top.

Lesson learned-  Bag a motor when not in use or when you put it on a work surface or into storage.

See photo- the 2 metal pieces are circled.

Bruce,

re: "You're learnin real quick boy!"   Old dog, new no tricks. :D

re: "Where are those bags and elastics?   ???" Do not use Katie's from the kitchen.  Go to the dollar store.  It is an essential service.  Your life depends on it.  Oh, wait.  Go to the kitchen and borrow Katie's stuff.  :)

Stay well. ;)
