Title: Valencia 1800 re-build and conversion from brushed to brushless
Post by: Frank v B on November 07, 2019, 08:37:47 PM
Another kit landed on my lap at last night's Pilot Meeting and wanted a home.
This is a Valencia 1800 motor glider from Kyosho.  It came with a Futaba 72 meg AM 4 channel radio and 3 standard size servos (rudder, elevator, motor on/off).  Looks like it was finished and crashed.  The fuse is broken at about the CG point on both sides, the landing gear is bent back, the elevator was loose (hinges failed).

Challenge: get it to lose some weight and re-power it with a brushless/lipo power system.

Current weight ready to fly is 53.2 oz or 3.3 pounds with a 7.2 volt 6 cell 1200 mah nicad pack.

Will post some photos later on this evening.

Will get to this challenge after the Tiger Moth is finished.

Took the whole plane apart and weighed the parts:

bare fuse- 9.0 oz. Photo 65
motor and wiring harness 8.1 oz.  Photo 63
RC equipment (3 servos, 1 RX battery pack, 1 RX, 1 switch harness)- 9.2 oz Photo 64
battery pack (6 cell, 7.2 volts, 1200 mah)- 10.5 oz.

Have stripped everything out including the battery tray, servo tray (plywood), landing gear aluminum plate.

Note in photo 66 how the fuse is cracked about 3/4 of the way through at about the CG point.

Good work Frank. Surely you could use mini servos in that plane. I have a lot of them if you need a few. I would be happy to donate them to the project.
