Title: Win A Warwing Quiz
Post by: bweaver on January 19, 2018, 01:55:46 PM
Hello fellow TEMAC members.

I am offering a free Warwing Kit to a member of the club who can successfully guess/answer a question I will pose in this 'topic' tomorrow at approximately 11 a.m.

Up to 50 TEMAC members will have an opportunity to win the Kit.  However, there are some rules.  These include:

Our illustrious leader Simon can't enter this contest.  (He won the last quiz I posted the other day.)

Before you can participate, understand your answer/guess will have to be posted tomorrow (Saturday) in this 'topic', after I initiate the quiz by first posting the contest question. This means that if you are only a 'guest' on this TEMAC Forum and not a 'member', you will not be able to enter your answer/guess.  So register as a 'member' of the Forum before the contest begins.

The only other requirements that are imposed include:
(1) you have to be a TEMAC member, and
(2) if you win, you have to pick up your kit Wednesday night at the build session, or arrange with me for picking up the kit at another club meeting or at a mutually agreeable time at Rogo Field, or other location.
(3) Each member will only be permitted to submit one guess/answer to the question being posed.

NOTE TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY ORDERED A WARWING KIT, YOU TO CAN ENTER THIS CONTEST.
If you are the successful contestant tomorrow, your Warwing Kit that you previously ordered will become free.  That means, some else will still have an opportunity to win the Warwing Kit being offered now.

Tell your TEMAC friends about the contest, then come back to this 'topic' tomorrow at around 11 a.m. or shortly thereafter to enter.

Hey @bweaver

Do they have to be paid up for 2018 to count as TEMAC members, or are 2017 members eligible too?!!   8)

Here is how we will play.

I have a personal favorite number that is less than 51.  It is not zero, or a negative number.  Can you guess what number it is?  (Is 0 a number?)

Post your entry number by replying to this post.  ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON IS PERMITTED.  There can only be 50 entries, so enter now.

View other entries made before yours to make sure you don't duplicate the other entries.

The winning person and their selected entry number will be revealed/posted is this 'topic' Monday evening after 8 p.m.

IMPORTANT NOTES:  Should my favorite number not be selected by Monday evening, the closest entry number to it  (above or below it) will be used to determine the winner.  In the event this occurs and there is a tie, (theoretically there could be), then two winners will be revealed, each winning a Warwing kit one way or another.

In order to ensure that this quiz is transparent (not fixed), I have sent the secret number to our leader Simon because he has already won one. He won't tell anyone what it is.  Will you Simon!!!

Good luck to all entrants.

Bruce likes good food.  I know this having watched him enjoying several meals at Swiss Chalet and Colonel Mustard's.  The only thing that is missing at these establishments is good home-made pie.  Pies are round, with a circumference equal to Pi (what else?) times its diameter.  The arc traced by one revolution of the tip of a prop is also Pi times its diameter.  So clearly, Pi makes the world go around.  And Bruce is an all around nice guy, so clearly his favourite number just has to be Pi.  (If it isn't, he should reconsider, and make it so.)

So without any further adieu, Pi it is.  Bruce did not specify whether his favourite number is an integer, a rational number, or an irrational number.  Given the people he hangs out with at TEMAC, I would put my money on an irrational number, such as Pi.  Bruce also did not specify any particular number of decimal places, so I will opt for something approaching the precision with which he builds his Warwings!

And that is my guess!   8)

Bruce,

Look what you have done now.  You set all the mathematicians in the club loose on a wild goose chase..... keep them going!
I am glad Andy stopped at his dissertation on PI.  Hopefully he will skip the lecture on SINE, COS and TANGENTS. 8)

I will take that as a 3.

Athol, Frank, reread the instructions.  The posts you have provided fail to meet the entry requirements.  Please try again.  I know I didn't provide any pictures with it to help you out, but talk to Andy, I think he somewhat understood how to do it.

Hey Bruce when does the suspense end for the other guys and you tell them that 21 is the magic number. It must be 21, we both grew up in Willowdale.

Hi Bruce, it must be 29.

Rounded from 29.05 AU. The approximate distance between Earth's and Neptune's orbits.

Bruce,

re:"Athol, Frank, reread the instructions.  The posts you have provided fail to meet the entry requirements.  Please try again. "

My post was not an entry, it was an observation.  I will not try again. :P

If I were to win I would have to report to you and listen politely on how to build a Warwing.  It would be as much punishment for you as it would be for me. ;D  I am trying to let you off (down?) easy. 8)

Rob, regarding "when is the suspense over?"; you have to refer to the rules at http://temac.ca/smf/index.php/topic,6474.msg42056.html#msg42056

Frank, such a disappointment.  I have thought you could have built a Warwing without a great amount of detailed instruction, however now you have confirmed it.  So sad...  :'(

Frank, I have given it more thought about your excuse as to why you haven't entered to win.  I have also confirmed even though you routinely admit it, you do not read instructions. Rule 2 of the quiz/contest clearly states:
(2) if you win, you have to pick up your kit Wednesday night at the build session, or arrange with me for picking up the kit at another club meeting or at a mutually agreeable time at Rogo Field, or other location.

Thus, if you enter and by chance win, you could try to build it without my help in your personal solitude. This would ensure that you would not be punished.

OR FRANK, are you afraid to try to fly combat against all the other experienced TEMAC pilots?

PS to all other TEMAC members besides Frank; - if you have a Warwing, it doesn't mean you have to fly it in combat. That will be, and is your choice. Warwings fly great just as a sport aircraft, if that is what you want to do.  (But if you want the streamers are free.)

Dem's fighting woids. :o

My Warwing will be built this year (last year's kit) and it will fly against you and all other pilots.  I will not win because I don't have your killer instinct but I will be eating foam this year.  May it be yours! 8)

Thank you to all the participants in this win a Warwing kit activity.  :) :D ;D

The winner is....

Drum role please.....

Carlos. @Palkina Congratulations! While not having guessed my favorite number, Carlos was the closest to it.  Carlos, please let me know how you wish to obtain your new Warwing Kit.  I hope you enjoy it.

My current favorite number less than 50 is 32, multiply that by 2 equals 64.  I am living in the moment of my 64th year.  It works for me!

That's weird   ;D

It would have been a better story is your favourite number was your number of confirmed Warwing kills!

Well, Bruce did mention a factor of 2, and I quote (http://temac.ca/smf/index.php/topic,6474.msg42095.html#msg42095):

"My current favorite number less than 50 is 32, multiply that by 2 equals 64.  I am living in the moment of my 64th year.  It works for me!"

Based on what I've seen in these combat sessions, 2 would be a generous but plausible accounting of his confirmed Warwings kills (or his exaggeration factor for same), so his combative psyche really is manifest in his favourite number!!   8)

Robert, that would have really scared Frank off, and others too.

With my favorite number, I was only attempting to get people to try out combat, at least once.  For those who don't wish to fly combat, yet still have put together a Warwing, they will enjoy flying a plane that gives them the opportunity to experiment in flight having very little invested. Most importantly, should they have to repair a Warwing they wouldn't have to attend Frank's @Frank v B repair classes.

Good luck with all this blah blah about winning and building warwings.

Don't spend too much time beautifying your builds because I intend to smash them all in the flying contests!

The 'chicken' is a rubber squeeze toy given to the loser of a warwing contest.

I think I remember .....

In my first contest, I flew carefully and avoided confrontation. For this, Bruce awarded me the 'chicken' award.

However, since then, I have cut a few ribbons, and seriously impacted/smashed others' models a couple times.

I'm pretty sure the 'chicken' was passed on to someone else.

Hey Bruce,
I arrived at Col Mustards with all my kit, ready to cut and tape and glue my new Warwing together. Man, you made it so easy for all of us by doing all the grunt work of getting the kits ready. Everything cut and all we had to do was glue it together. Thanks so much for all the work and prep you did. I will try and repay you by destroying your and Simon's Warwing. The gauntlet is thrown!
Cheers Bruce,
Rob

I agree with you Michael.  I think the chicken was passed on to someone else... Where is that Chicken?

Re Rob's comment - The gauntlet is thrown!   My response - Right back at you!   ;D

It was my pleasure to partake in this Warwing build activity.

I look forward to seeing these Warwings and others in the air this coming flying season, even if in many instances they will only be used for sport flying.  For those Warwingers that fall within this category, remember the streamers are always free and readily available, for when the urge strikes.  However, you might become the recipient of the chicken, if he ever surfaces again.
