Title: FIELD CLEAN-UP APRIL 27 - ROLL CALL-
Post by: Frank v B on April 16, 2019, 10:11:23 PM
Let's support Graham in his field clean-up effort.  To slowly wake up I will be at the Tim's at Woodbine by 8:30 so my eyes can be open by 9:15 and drive to the field for the 9:30 field clean-up party.

Bring your boots, shovels, rakes and... oh, yes... a sense of humour. ;)  Yes, I will be wading in the creek to clean it up.  It's in my DNA.

I will be at Tim's no matter the weather.  If it is pouring we will be able to make the tough decisions in a dry place close to the field.  ;D ;D

The final go/no go will be made by Graham.

One week to go and I'm the only one showing up besides Graham, our dedicated Field Operations Manager.
That can't be good for Graham or TEMAC. ;) ;) ;D ;D

@Frank v B , Don't be such a worry wort.

On April 27th, I am hoping there will be a lot more support for Graham than last year.  I would like to see the line get longer!

I am planning to attend.  Wondering if it might also be useful to bring my weedeater (assuming it started this year lol) to work along the fences at the pilot stations etc.

Excellent idea Larry.  I am sure it will be useful around the creek area.

Hey everyone,

I crawled out of hibernation and checked out the field yesterday.  The ground is quite saturated in the parking lot, pit area, and the runway.  I made a futile attempt to roll the runway but gave up after a few passes due to excessive water underneath it.

With the forecast for more rain tomorrow, I think it is best to keep vehicular and foot traffic off the parking lot, pits and runway.  We need a few straight days of sunshine to dry things out.

So I am sorry to say that the Spring clean up is postponed to 04/May at 09:30am.

(Thanks to all of those responding enthusiastically to Frank's call to duty!  I do hope you can make it out on the first Saturday in May.)

Cheers,
Graham

Hi Graham. I was afraid of that. I will not be able to make it on May 4th and I feel bad about it, but we are leaving on our first post retirement trip early on the 4th and will be away for 2 weeks. I am excited about going away, but sorry that I will miss both the field cleanup and Maiden Fest.

Unlike Rob, I'm glad for the change.  Hopefully, the weather will be much better, and next week will be better for me as I wasn't able to make it this weekend.

Also, it'll allow me to get to the field and maybe do some flying   :o

Poor Rob... Not being able to clean the field 'cause he's going on vacation   :'(

We are going to try to come out on May 4th then, was thinking it was tomorrow but good thing I checked the forum!  Won't get there until probably 10:30 though (after swim practice).  Maybe Ethan and Tory, maybe Alex and Eli too.  We'll try to find rubber boots big enough for growing teenager feet :)

Tim's will have to do without us this week.
Same time next week.  8:30 at Tim's, 9:30 at the field.
Short-sell Tim's stock!

Hello Frank, Graham, et al,

With the rain we got over the last couple of days, will the filed cleanup go ahead today?

Please post a current status if you would.

Hi Graham et al,

Count me in for the 4th of May (next week).  I was unable to make it this week due to other family events going on, so am glad for this change, but will RSVP sooner next time.

Looking forward to seeing you (and the light of day) again!

Awful thought.

Next week Andy should be back and forcing us into this year's version of last year's Conga Line photo.  He will probably have us sitting in a line pretending to be national rowing champs.   ;D ;D

Finally there is the fresh smell of Spring in the air.  A bit of light drizzle in the morning followed by sunshine in the afternoon.
So perfect for the clean up.

I am happy to say, " the Spring clean up is on for tomorrow, 04/May starting at 09:30am.

Garden rakes, grass seed spreaders, and boots for the moist conditions.  The runway may still be too soft for walking/rolling, but we can certainly get everything else done.  Look forward to seeing you in the morning.

Hot Choco, Coffee, sweet carbs will be available after the work is done for those who done it.

Cheers,
Graham

Great!  Great!  Great!  The more the merrier. The more makes for light work.  The more members attending is the TEMAC way.

When the work is done, don't forget there are a number of planes ready for maidening and some are just being brought out to get the dust off them and into the air to start off the new flying season.

A huge "thank you" to the 25+ folks who cut through the fog, put up with the drizzle, seeded, rolled, marked the fence, trenched the lane way and worked (played??) the stream.  The grass is nice and green but still very wet.  Likewise, the runway is floating but I did manage to get a first roll done on it.  With some sunny days ahead, hopefully it will all begin to dry out.

Once the ground firms up towards the end of May/early June, we are planning to bring in some gravel for the parking lot and lane way.

Just a few requests:
1.  Please avoid walking on the runway/taxiways until they dry out.
2.  Please park on the gravel in the parking lot, not on the soft grass along the fence.

Many thanks to all.  You are a fun and productive gang!
Graham
