Title: Winter Morning Crew - Field Report - Jan 14 2018
Post by: Andy Hoffer on January 14, 2018, 04:24:11 PM
Hi Folks:

Due to the overwhelming enthusiasm for winter flying exuding from the membership this season, I thought I would provide a report on field conditions:

Parking Lot:  Less than one inch of snow cover; accessible by car due to loss of snow cover from the recent thaw and rain.
Runway:  25% patchy snow/ice veneer cover
Taxiways:  75% patchy snow/ice veneer cover
Assembly tables:  Clear and dry
Loo:  75% ice and snow crystals in the urinal; the potty contains a viscous heterogeneous unfrozen mix of unknown origins; freeboard is about 8", so don't sit too close. (Signed limited edition archival photos available on request from @Andy Hoffer .)
Burn barrel:  waiting for a response from Simon.
Skies:  Gorgeous blue with a few scattered clouds.
Sun:  lots!
Winds: light (SSW to SW at 4-7 knots (7-13 kmh)

Enjoy!  I know we did!

Andy

All I wanted was to enjoy flying with the comfort of a burn barrel for some warmth.

Alas, I couldn't find a match/lighter and kindling to get a fire going.

Some things you desire, in reality you can only imagine.  Can't you feel the warmth?

I'm glad you got your fire pit.

You see, the Board does listen.

Well I just could not stay away from the field :)
I finished what I had to do.... ;)
so around 2:30 pm I got to the field
I drove right in... :o...( I have summer friendly tires) ::)
took out my plane and set it up on the cleared (no snow) tables ;D
got ready to fly...(Brr... cold...not  :D  -5 only breeze straight down the run way)
wait problem here... :-[ no snow I have skies on...  :-X
Problem solved there's a patch of snow at the end of the run way
Turned out the skis did ok with the frozen tundra... :D... (the grass)
Sadly I had only 2 charged batteries... :'(
it was a fun fly.... ;D any time flying is fun...  8)
that's my report from the field today... :P
