Title: Field conditions???
Post by: Frank v B on March 30, 2018, 06:19:11 PM
Could someone who goes to, or by, the field regularly please report on the field and driveway conditions.  Andy? Graham? Cadez? Bruce?

A little more information than "Frank, stay home.... please" would be appreciated. ;D

Thank you in advance for your help.

Frank

ps: Ryerson students will start next weekend.  Need to know what to expect... or just let me suffer. :P

HI Frank
I dropped by the field on the way from Stouffville.
the drive way is wet in all the wet places and dry in the... not dry.... but firmish ... you can drive in. there are a couple of wet spots... at the places where we usually make the drainage trenches
the parking is dryish, the field is soggy but walkable... the runway "looks" dry  :o  from the car
the corn field is just a dream.... don't go out there unless  you want to build up your legs
You'll need a good pair of rubber boots the mud is like cement... it keeps building as you walk in it.
Yep it spring at the ROGO RC Airdrome.   ;D

Thank you BJ.

Translation:  "Stay away you idiot!!" ;D

I will heed your advice.

Frank

ps If anyone can report in just like this on Wednesday it would be ideal.  Wednesday evening we will pick which weekend day to fly with Ryerson.

For the love of the hobby!  When is the weather going to get better?  I had some perfect days "at home" with mom watching Sophia to get out!  But 200+ winds and -6 weather didn't help. Lots of cool projects are now waiting again at the door.

Greg,

re: "When is the weather going to get better? "

The weather forecast for July looks promising.  It is bound to be above zero then!! :)

Will be at the field tomorrow (Sunday, 12-2) with Ryerson.  Will bring skates. ;D

Conditions at the field today were great!  So were the conditions of the sky above it.  The wind sock has really taken a beating though.

We're hoping to repeat both Tuesday morning at around 11:00.  Everyone is welcome.  ::)

Actually, ice runners might be good for Monday morning!

@Andy Hoffer , I've heard the de-icing machine is not working at TEMAC, so I won't be going out today.

Are you still going?

@bweaver, you've got to be kidding!  At least half the fun of winter flying is watching your precision landings within mm of the pilot stations.  If you're not going to the field I'm just going to stay home and watch the ice accretion on my scratch-built scale freezing rain protective covering for my 1/3-scale Monster RC Transport Truck.

I saw a report on TV last week.
We had several double digit temperature days in February. 1 in March and I think 1 so far in April.

My brother and I are headed to Poway CA (near San Diego) next week for a DLG contest. No snow there :)

Hey Pat,

Are you planning to go up into the mountains to do someslope soaring.  The terrain and location look perfect for it.

Have a great trip and best of luck to you and Ivan in the contest.  We'll look forward to some posts and pix.

Never done sloping.
You can't really do it in Ontario, and the last thing I need is yet another flying addiction :)

(Ronald Koo, who I think used to be a TEMAC member, does manage to slope fly in and around TO. Keele valley landfill is one of the sites he uses.
Has to hop some fences to do it :) )

Also hope the winds will be too light for slope, we want good thermal weather. And no snow of course :)
I will post some results when we get back.
I am sort of a middle of the pack flyer at best. Lots of reasons for that. One of the big ones is launch height. I throw about 150', the top guys are well over 200'.

My usual goal is to beat my brother Ivan, and often we finish very close together,  but lately he has been walking all over me  :'(

One thing we do have is the best looking models, our "Team Canada" NXTs look (and fly) amazing :)

Pat,

Don't forget we folks over at SOGGI have a slope site ;-) But it's a bit of a trip from TO. I hear there's another nice one up near Collingwood.

Good luck with the contest!
