Title: I'll be there starting this Wednesday, July 22, 5 pm- 8:30pm

Flight Instruction: 2020

We are still trying to figure out how we (Ontario, Canada, the world) should deal with Covid as a disease and an economic impact.

I am volunteering to be at the field every Wednesday from 5:00-8:30-ish starting this coming Wednesday, July 22 until mid-September.
: for new modellers/members to check and test-fly your trainer.
: for new members who have soloed but are new to TEMAC to handle their flight test and field rule review. Note: this test must be done with any kind of stabilization system switched off. We are testing your skills, not the engineer who designed the SAFE system.
: for low-time soloed pilots who want to brush up on elements of controlled flight.
: for existing members to schedule some well-deserved flying.

If you want help, meet me there.
If you are an instructor and can help, by all means help on a volunteer basis.  No pressure.  You need to feel safe.
If you are a working stiff and need a break to fly a model airplane, by all means, join us but please give students priority.

Please wear a mask, please distance, please do not use the tables and chairs at the field but feel free to bring your own.

Frank van Beurden (cell 416-605-0707)
Chief Flight Instructor
TEMAC

ps: thanks to Andy for pointing out an incorrect date in the heading (now corrected).  As part of my intergalactic space travel at warp speed I referenced the wrong month. 8)  Time travelling requires many adjustments.

Sounds great Frank, I will be there to assist with whatever I can.  I can bring disposable masks, hand sanitizer and gloves for those who aren't prepared.  I am sure staying safe in the  environment at the field will be a piece of cake compared to what myself and especially Diane have seen and had to deal with working in a retail setting.  Social distancing issues on the part of customers, fellow staff, contradictory directions from those "in charge", plus a lack of PPE on occasion, have all been challenges.

Thank you for making the effort to get this important aspect of our club activity "off the ground".

Quoting @Frank v B above,

Good thing we have trim controls on our radios!  :D

The forecast for Wednesday shows that the P.O.P. is at .... 60%.  Here is hoping for the 40%.

I will be there at 5 pm on Wednesday with 100% probability. ;D ;D

So now the forecast is thumbing its nose at me with a POP of 70%.

I can't hear you.  i will still be there.

If it stays dry I am buying a 6/49 quick pick on the way home. 8)

Hi @sihinch ,

Oh yes!!  He grew up with all those wind mills in Holland!  It's in his DNA!!

(I grew up on the windy Manitoba prairies so I have the same affliction!)

And with all of @Frank v B's nautical experience, he can say with aplomb, "Well, blow me down!!   :D

Hi @sihinch ,

I'm SURE @Frank v B would say, "Just go over to the 40% of the field where it isn't raining!"   :D

Stop spending all this verbal energy and just go flying.  Here is the report:

Gerald and I had an early dinner (fish & chips) at about 3:30, arrived at the field at 4 pm. Kenny was already there flying.  His large L-39  has a phenomenal jet sound.  It spit raindrops for about 10 minutes at 4:15 and Gerald and I started flying at 4:30.  Gerald had two flights with the Flyzone Beaver, I had a flight with the small Cessna and one with the UHU electric glider.

Then Jan arrived and he flew for about 30 minutes ( 2 batteries) with his AeroScout.  His circuits are really coming along.

92- My Cessna with Gerald's Flyzone Beaver
93- Kenny with his jet.
96- Gerald got in two flights

Here is why there was no rain at Rogo Field today so we could go flying.

Motto is "Watch what you wish for"

After Andy's rant and posts about all the pending rain, I went downstairs and got my RC tugboat and took it to the field.
I put it down on the parking lot and said  "I want to float my RC boat in Andy's rain"

Of course my wish did not come true so I went flying. 8) 8)

Reverse psychology always works.  I am a father of four!

See photo of my RC tugboat on today's Star newspaper in the parking lot at Rogo Field.

45 minutes of flight time.  Worth the trip. :D

Well, the rain, seeing that @Frank v B was fully prepared, decided to forage elsewhere and took a right turn at the 404 and headed south to my house at about 10:00 p.m.  Heavy steady stuff, perfect for flushing out eaves troughs and down spouts, and giving our parched lawn a much needed drink.  All I had to do was put on my wellies, rain pants and a rain jacket, climb up an extension ladder to the eaves trough, and clean out the muck and leaves that were clogging the leaf guard at the top of the downspout and also clogging the eaves trough itself, causing a monster overflow, part of which showed a particular affinity for the adjacent window well below.  A trickle of water coming into the basement through the adjacent basement foundation was all the coaxing I needed to immerse myself in the beautiful warm summer rain (downpour).  It is amazing how much debris had collected in the eaves troughs since I cleaned them in the spring.  The best part was imagining how big a smile all of this would have brought to our wonderful CFI's face.  8)

As a tribute to @Frank v B 's unflinching dedication to pilot education, including living historical aspects of RC, I wish to present the Frank Van Beurden Frequency Board.  Frank has a whole suite of vintage 72 MHz radios carefully matched to the channel pins shown here, and available for students who like jousting as an adjunct to their flying.

Kudos to Frank for getting the training season off to a great start in the face of an intimidating forecast.  Henceforth I will call Frank's Weather Divining Service when I need to remedy a less than promising TAF.  8)
