Just wanted to provide some background to the current Bylaws, when they were written in 2012, relating to the Safety Officer/Director.

I'm not trying to influence anyone, just provide context.

We as a Board decided back in 2012 that Safety was everyone's responsibility.  We didn't want to give any members the impression that they didn't have the responsibility to follow our safety guidelines, nor help others understand transgressions or mistakes.  We didn't want to create a culture where Members thought that Safety at the field was the responsibility of a single person.

We all benefit from having a fun, courteous and safe place to fly, so we (the Board) wanted everyone to help maintain that.  We wanted to create a culture where anyone felt empowered to speak to anyone else if they felt something was unsafe or missed.  Respectfully and courteously.

At the time, I was the VP and Director of Operations, so I was responsible for coordinating the input and creating the Club Safety rules and preparing the field diagram (a Safety requirement for field registration with MAAC.)

That's just some history of why we have the rules we have today........I'm happy to answer any questions people may have or provide more detail.

Well, that was an experience.  My first Zoom meeting and it did not go cleanly.  Andy was kind enough to take me through a dry run at about 6 pm so it would work.
Then when the time came to log on for the meeting, the sound did not work.
I called Andy and he put his phone beside his computer and I put my home phone on speaker phone.  A cut-and-paste solution but it worked.   What do you expect from a Flip Phone specialist? ;D

The video was funny.  Being picked on must be seen as a sign of some respect.... or desperation. ;) ;)

Thanks Simon for the screen shot of the participants.  I had no way of knowing who was involved in the meeting.  Andy will teach me how to turn on that feature next time.  The question will surely be on the final exam. 8)

Andy will also teach @frank how to use the macro feature on his camera.  And how to ensure an image is in focus!!  This will be challenging, nbo doubt.  But it  will be worth the effort to torment Frank.   ;D
