This coming Sunday, September 14 three Temac members are representing the club at the Annual EF-1 pylon races north of Orangeville.  Each flyer races 3-4 races.  A lot of work for about 6 minutes of flying*.  The competition is fast, furious but fun and the competitors are very helpful.  Trash talking reigns supreme. Glenn, Vadim and I are making the trek (pilgrimage?).

An EF-1 racer is very fast (approx. 180 km/hr)- a 25 size motor, high KV (1250), small prop (8x8), 4 cells.  The motor produces about 750 watts which is one horsepower.  By comparison, a regular 25 produces half the wattage.  10 laps around a 3 pole course.  The record is less than 1 minute, 5 seconds for 10 laps.

The official posting for this race is under "Other events" on the Forum.

* only slightly more normal than top fuel drag racing-  all that work for a 4 second run.  By comparison, we are normal.

Hey @Frank v B ,

So, exactly who is the adjudicator for normalcy in this pursuit?!!

OOPS!!!- gravity grabbed my back-up racer while attempting a landing.  Ran out of battery, altitude and luck.  It nosed in from about 40'.  The Scarlet Screamer had the nose broken off.

There will be a post starting soon with "how to repair a crashed pylon racer" under the Building/Construction heading.

UPDATE!!  Vadim is game to go to Orangeville tomorrow.
He cobbled together an EF-1 racer.  My back-up crashed/un-crashed racer will be ready to go as well.

Wish us luck.
Always aiming for second last place.

We came, we saw, we participated but did not conquer.  Great weather, wind down the runway (these planes need wind to get off the ground!), great bunch of guys.  Regardless of the placings, these are all good pilots.

The final score:

1) Cory Payne (slowpoke)
2) Dave Ford (coach extraordinaire)
3) Wayne K. (Ottawa)
4) Ken Fluney (race organizer)
5) Frank (Temac)
6) Glenn (Temac)
7) Vadim (Temac)

Photo report:
03- Robert resting before his duties at the number one pylon.
04- Our own Vadim getting psyched up.
05- Chris and Wayne drove in from Ottawa.  Chris volunteered.  Wayne raced.
09- Cory getting ready to race.  Son Zach is holder/caller.  In the background, Vadim ready to fly with Dave Ford as his holder/caller.
12- Glenn talking to Cory before his first flight.
17- Wayne doing his best impression as Dorf.*  He was calling for pilot Ken (83 years young!).
21- Glenn contemplating his next move.
26- Cory calling for pilot Glenn.
37- Ken flying up a storm with Cory calling.
40- Wayne prepping his plane with Dave as his holder/caller/coach.
47- Wayne concentrating on his plane after finishing his 10 laps.
48- Winner Cory with his son Zach.
51- The gang after the racing finished.  Notice the flag in the background.
