Title: Filming aerial scenes in the movie Dunkirk
Post by: RogMason on August 25, 2017, 09:47:50 PM

I found these two videos very interesting.  As a group of us went to see the movie Dunkirk, I thought you might be interested in the mechanics of filming the aerial scenes. No CGi (computers) used, just real aeroplanes (3 Spitfires, a Spanish Me109, Blenheim bomber and YAK Imax camera mount, with cockpit modified to look like a Spitfire. Also large scale RC models.

Then I came across this remarkable compilation of ALL the flying scenes in the movie 'Battle of Britain'.  Nothing else, just the flying!  It is worthy of note that there are aircraft flying in this film made in 1969, that are not flying now - e.g. the He.111 which crashed years later.  Twelve Spanish Me 109's (with Merlin engines), were purchased at auction by the producer of the film, who heard about them shortly before the movie was made.

Great flying here guys...

Glenn & I acted out some Spitfire/Bf.109 scenes this weekend at TEMAC, with his Durafly Spit and my Durafly Bf.109.  Mine was a maiden - flew great.
