My wife, son and his partner and I went on a "familiarization flight" on an RCAF C-17 Globemaster today.  93 Forces members and families went on our flight.  There were 4 flights of about 35 minutes during the day.

Our son is in the Forces and signed us up.  Hardship!

Observations:
- organized as hell
- weird sitting sideways for take-off and landing.
- smooth take-off and landing
- we boarded via the ramp in the tail.  Fast and efficient.
- there were 4 doors in the side and 4 through the top...in case of a ditching.
- really weird flying in an airplane without windows.  Picture yourself on a tour bus without windows.  You have no idea where you are.
- they dropped the tail ramp during the flight and flew with a rear-down attitude so we could see out the back.  Lots of islands.  I bet there were about a thousand of them!
- clean and organized.
- there were some C-130 Hercules there.  They looked like scale models Peter would bring to Rogo.  They looked tiny.

Photo report:
-63- into the belly of the beast.  We walked on through the ramp.
-68- looking forward
-70- the only crew member in the cabin was the tail gate operator.
-75- "Looking out my back door"- the cargo ramp dropped during the flight.
-86- selfie with Cynthia.
-87- ramp ready to drop on landing.
-90- turnbuckles to fasten loads.  Neat stowage method.
-91- exiting the plane.
-92- side exit.
-93- looking forward from the ramp.
-94- detail photo of the ramp latches and locks.  A heck of a pinch-point.
-95- A second Globemaster.
