I will be using this forum to let people know about flying activities at TEMAC. A few people have asked when an instructor would be available.

So far, my plans are to be at the field with Adam (an instructor) Saturday afternoon (about 2:30) and Sunday morning at 9am for about 2 to 3 hours, all of course based on good weather conditions.

I will confirm this Saturday morning, so please check back here.

We'll be there at about 2:30pm today, for about 1½ hours or so. Note: wind is predicted to be about 20kph.

I'm also still planning to be there from 9am to 11am tomorrow morning.

I didn't go to the Richmond Hill Fun Fly today as planned.  I'm sure Andre did.

Not only did André go to Richmond Hill, but he came to TEMAC also and flew there in the afternoon, with Adam and me, helped Jim Connell with his trainer (a good flight too), and Nestor was flying his GWS Beaver.

Weather permitting, we'll be there tomorrow morning about 9am.

Weather permitting, I will be doing some flying at TEMAC on Saturday afternoon, 3-ish, and Sunday morning at about 9am. I may come even earlier Sunday and work on the field a bit (mow the pits area, drive over the temp. runway to flatten it, straighten the fence, etc.).

I will confirm on this thread/forum by Saturday morning.

If the entrance is wet, be careful!

I may dig a ditch and install a small culvert.

It is quite windy today. I'll only decide to go fly based on conditions in the early to mid afternoon.

Regardless, Sunday morning I will definately be doing some field maintenance and flying.

After spending some time with John Kusterin and my son Adam discussing how to take care of the TEMAC field, André and I met at the field this evening and it seems we reached a deal with a person to maintain the field. Although I (and many other TEMAC members) will be out of town this weekend (at the Kingston funfly - see home page), I expect the TEMAC field (pits and runway) to be in good shape.

Whoever goes flying this weekend, be care ful and have fun.

Be sure to follow all MAAC rules.

Flying at TEMAC on the long weekend

Since many people will be taking a long weekend for Canada Day, I expect many of our members to be flying at TEMAC. I know that I plan on flying Friday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning (weather and wife permitting).

Both the pits and temporary runway have been mowed. There are set-up tables, fences, and even a "porta-potty" may be installed by this weekend.

You must have your MAAC membership to fly, and you must have your wings certificate (or pin) to fly without an instructor. (If anyone needs an instructor, contact me).

The proper runway is still "off-limits" to us as the grass is beginning to grow. If you must land your plane on that area, just be careful. Also, please be careful should you have to walk on the adjacent farmer's land to retrieve a plane.

Again, please remember these main rules:

1. There is no flying over the pits section of the field; only over the eastern section of the field past the orange fence.

2. All flyers must be MAAC members; no exceptions!

3. Members without their pilot's certificate must fly under the supervision of a club instructor.

4. All flyers must place a pin on the frequency board (on their frequency of course) before turning their transmitters on, and must remove the pin after turning their transmitters off.

5. Please take any garbage away from the field.

If you haven't been out to TEMAC yet, please come and enjoy your club. Any member is welcome to bring along an EMFSO member as a guest. Please bring sunglasses, as the sun will be in front-center for any morning flying.

Arrived at TEMAC tonite to watch Andre fly his large Graupner glider sans ailerons. Then he flew his Bearcat(?) with LiPo cells...very impressive aerobatics.After he packed up, he very graciously answered about a dozen of my questions and gave me some good guidelines to proceed with future  construction. Thanks, Andre !
ps. the field looks great. The corn is still short, the runway is beginning to fill in, the taxiway is luxurious.

A couple of us are tentatively (depending on weather) planning to go flying at TEMAC tomorrow evening (Friday, July 23).  I don't plan on going on the weekend as I need to get some work done around the house.  We were planning to go this evening, but it was windy and a thunderstorm rolled in.

Evening flying is a lot of fun.  The wind usually calms right down, the air cools down a bit, and ya don't have to drag yourself out of bed at crazy hours on a weekend just to get to the field as the wind picks up.  Another bonus with evening flying, at TEMAC, is the sun is BEHIND you while flying.

Looks like John W, Glenn N, and I are in for tomorrow evening.  If anyone else see's this post you're welcome to join us.

I have guests coming over Friday night, darn it! Have a good time.

However, I just spoke to our gardener. The main field has been mowed!

I have not seen it yet; I don't know how much bigger the runway is yet, or exactly how much he did. I will see it on Saturday afternoon, and then I will give feedback to the gardener. Feel free to offer suggestions and comments in this forum.

This is the initial cut. Second and third cuts will improve substantially, according to the cardiner. He said the weeds/clover were quite difficult to cut.

As far as the wet driveway is concerned, perhaps we'll finally put in the small culvert we were talking about.

The proper runway at TEMAC has had its initial cut. It's still not short enough, but the gardener will improve on it by next week.

Flying on Sunday morning, July 25.

Adam and I will be at the Toronto RC club from about 8:30 to 10am with the other electric flyers, and then (when the gas flyers start) we're off to TEMAC 'till about noon or so.

If anyone wants to join us at either or both, please do. Our plans may change. I can be reached Sunday morning on my cell phone if at 416-347-0006 for any reason.

We have 43 members now! Several are brand new flyers.

I went to TEMAC on Monday morning. I used our manual mower to cut part of the runway very short so that I could take off with small wheels. I was able to cut the grass to about 1" height. I also cut a strip down the new runway. It was hard to cut but it was very flat. Once cut short, this will be a great runway.

The entire field is scheduled to be cut on Thursday evening, so the grass may be a little thick up till then. It should be in good condition this weekend.

I see that several people are planning on flying this coming Wednesday evening - July 28. I think rain is predicted, however, if it's dry, I will go up during the day and cut some grass for you all, and I'll do some flying during the day. I have other plans for Wednesday evening.

Should Wednesday evening's flying be 'rained out', may I suggest Thursday night if it's dryer? I'll call the gardener to see what time he finishes cutting the grass. Once cut, the flying should be good.

I will not be at TEMAC this coming weekend, or during the next week. I will be there next week Sunday morning, probably about 10:30am.

If anyone wants to borrow the manual lawn mower for TEMAC, let me know by this Thursday.

I may have mentioned this before, but I would like to have some kind of meeting for all TEMAC members early Fall '04. I would like to organise next years' flying to the satisfaction of everyone, plan a proper funfly next year, and perhaps negotiate with the farmer for a larger piece of land, stretching further to the south; it's still hard to land coming in over the trees on the north. Our expenses should be more focused next year, with most money going towards a lease and lawn care.

I too can do Thursday if necessary (or as well ).  But let's not give up on Wednesday (tomorrow) if the weather improves.

I'm game for either or both days.  I have both evenings relatively free.  I get off work around 6pm and will try to make it down to the flying field as soon as I can thereafter.  I'll need to head home for a quick stop in Woodbridge (at my house) to gather equipment.  Then I'll drive up to TEMAC.  Weather permitting, of course.  :)

It's looking pretty bleak and wet out there ... ... if the weather doesn't improve much I think we might need rubber boots in the field..!  I think if it's still like this into the early afternoon I might try the Thursday evening thing instead.

I was up at TEMAC Wednesday morning.

I tried to cut the lawn but it was too wet and difficult to do. The driveway is very wet, and I wouldn't recommend driving in unless you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle or if it dries up considerably. I had to wear boots.

Despite being alone on a wet and not-well-kept field, I still flew 2 planes for about 45 minutes and had a great time. There was a very slight north wind, which is perfect for our field, and it was very cloudy, which meant there was no sun in my eyes.

If you go tonight, have fun. It seems the forcast looks better for tomorrow.

I still plan to call the gardener to find out what time he finishes mowing. I plan to fly tomorrow.

Unfortunately I won't be able to be there tonight.  My production coordinator just informed me I have to have my creative team produce three commercial story boards by 3pm tomorrow afternoon so we'll be burning the midnight oil here.   ... I will be there Thursday though (the gods permitting!!!).    Crazy industry...

I'm going tonight (Wednesday) as is Andre, Tracy, and probably Glenn.

I'll try to make tomorrow too.  The kids don't mind

I spoke to the gardener. He will cut the grass mid-late afternoon on Thursday. Good weather is predicted.

I'll be there late Thursday afternoon until mid-evening, enjoying the nice summer weather and dry low cut grass/weeds.

I'll be there between 6:00 and 6:30.  I'll bring a shovel if you bring the pipe.  It's getting pretty sloppy on that road in.

We had a fantastic evening of flying tonight.  It was dead calm and green and lush.  Andre, Tracy, Dave, Glenn and I  were there.  At one point there were 4 planes in the air (5 if you count the full size flying by).

Around 8:30, Daphne arrived and Andre helped her get her Slow Stick trimmed out.  It flew very well, as did Daves Firebird type plane.  Glenn flew his Bristol Scout biplane there tonight too.

I'll be looking for another nice evening tomorrow.

Another great evening at TEMAC!

Adam and I got up to TEMAC just before 6pm and met the gardener. He had just finished cutting the grass and the new runway looked great.

We had a couple flights and then Robert Pike showed up. The 3 of us (mostly Robert and Adam) dug up the wet part of the driveway and installed a culvert/tube to drain water. Just as all the hard work was finished Glenn Nikolaiko showed up - just in time for flying.

Also, new member Daphne Simone came by and brought her mom. Adam spent some time training Daphne, who was soon able to fly nicely and even made a nice landing.

At one point we had 4 planes in the air. The wind was almost calm and the sun was far behind our backs.

Robert and Glenn flew their Piper Cubs, doing repeated touch-n-goes across the newly cut runway. Glenn also flew his T33 jet and a helicopter.

And might I just say again what a FABULOUS TIME I had this evening.  One of the best flights I've ever had, thanks in large part to Adam's great instruction.  He's a great teacher!  My mum (who's a nature photographer) took a few photos, but she only had her macro camera lens with her for taking tiny details on iddy-biddy objects (like mating insects!) so the shots of the planes in flight were fuzzy at best.  She wasn't planning on photographing the flying, so she apologized for the quality later! :)  Anyway I thought I'd post a few shots anyway since she had them.

It was noticed this week that there has been a lot of damage done to the corn while flyers have been retrieving "downed" aircraft.  Let us not anger the farmer and risk losing our new field.  We only have a yearly contract with the farmer which he could exercise the right not to renew if we continue to be careless.  If you need help working on perfecting your landings and flying in general.  "Aspire for excellence."  There is always room to improve.  Even I feel the need to practice landings periodically especially at a new field.  Fly smart and fly safe.

Last night there was one guy who landed deep in the corn twice. Perhaps you can give him some lessons on safe flying and how to land properly.

By the way, another farmer came by last night and spoke to us. He said that normally after growing corn, the next logical thing to grow is beans, which do not grow very high.

Hey!  If my motor would keep going I would hit the field most times.....

It was a fantastic couple of evenings at TEMAC.  I'm planning for the same next week.

The road in has a drain pipe now, but the ruts need filling in.  I'll try to get there this weekend and get some gravel down.  In the meantime, go easy through there.

Ha!  Right on for #2, Rob!  My mum wanted me to put that one in there to see if you guys would pick up on it...  pretty good!  Well, I guess since it doesn't really look like any of the others that flew that day, it wasn't all THAT hard, but I still think that's pretty good.

I just came from the TEMAC field about an hour ago and the driveway was alot better than yesterday. If anybody who wants to come tomorrow I think it should be better if it doesn't rain tonight.

The slushy part of the driveway (where the water was settling) is a work in progress.  We need more gravel down and some way to stabilize it.  It'll get better over time if we can prevent the rain water from pooling there.

I'm planning to go to TEMAC on Wednesday and/or Thursday evenings this week.

It was hard to tell, but I didn't recall anyone having that style of plane there.  It looks like a Piper Cherokee.

Daphne (and anyone else), are you going to TEMAC this week?  Did you get out this weekend?
