General Discussion / Sunday July 6 - HOT
Last post by GuyOReilly - Today at 04:14:11 PM
I was at the field today, it was HOT!
The plane was not performing as expected and I assumed that it was the density altitude calculated as 7,000 feet or so.
Unfortunately, it was something else...

Too hot to stay put in the sun gardening...
Much progress, the wings will be epoxied together soon.
It is simpler, I found, to do the sheeting after joining the wings.
That is another difference from the plans and instructions.
It is starting to look like a plane  ;D

General Discussion / MAAC Off-Site Flyers Program
Last post by davidk - Today at 11:47:51 AM
MAAC is offering a new program called the Off-Site Flyers Program (OFP) for RPAS and mRPAS.

You can register for this program here: MAAC Off-Site Flyers Program

This program allows MAAC members, once approved, to fly at locations that do not have a MAAC SOC.  For example, your cottage.

The OFP Document can be found at the link above as well as the Safety Document that governs your flying.

The OFP has nothing, at all, do to with TEMAC.  If you are approved for the OFP and fly at a site then that flight is between you and MAAC and TC.

While you are flying at TEMAC, the OFP has nothing to do with your flying.  TEMAC, MAAC, and TC rules continue to be the only rules applicable at TEMAC.

The OFP program does provide MAAC insurance but in a very specific way so make sure you read and understand the OFP Document carefully.  E.g. If you want to fly at a site under the OFP and the landowner requests proof of insurance then that site cannot be used for the OFP.  You would then need to apply for an SOC for that site.

The OFP is free for this year and has a cost of $50 starting in 2026.

Please post any questions you may have regarding the OFP and I'll try to get answers for you.

General Discussion / Work at TEMAC
Last post by davidk - Today at 11:30:42 AM
There will be some work done at TEMAC on Tuesday July 8, 2025 at 10am.  I don't think this will impact any flying.

There is a small patch of ground (the old RC car track) to the southwest of our field, in line with the pits and bordered by the parking area.  This patch is weedy and uneven.  We'd taken steps to remove the weeds last year but the ground was too uneven to mow.  On Tuesday we're going to attempt to level this patch so it can be seeded and cut.

Also, the driveway may be levelled to some degree.

Thanks, David.

Great day with about a dozen members flying.
Light wind, lots of sunshine, lots of flying.

Friday photo report:
19- Michael's jets.
21- David straightening the scarf on the pilot.
22- Michael Albatross
26- Michael and David hand-launching their jets.
28- David off to the races.  Notice the altitude it has gained in about 2 feet of forward flight.

According to the instructions, the battery tray may be installed forward or rearward of where indicated, in order to achieve proper balance with a battery pack. It looks like I'll have to move the tray forward by a few inches.

Other than that, basic assembly/construction is finished. Wiring, radio, stabilization, etc. installation, fine-tuning and programming is next, and maybe a bit of decoration before a maiden flight.

Wings assembled. Everything, including servo installation and linkages are exact/precise fits.
