Who's going to the TEMAC Fun Fly on Sunday (August 25)? The weather looks like it's going to be great!
What are you bringing to fly?
Who's racing?
Robert
i'm going :D i'm taking my Habu, Funtana, Leader, Spitfire and Extra 300 :)
Ahh the Funfly, love it!
I'm not racing... I'm winning
;D
I plan on being there to defend my title.
What will I be bringing?? Everything that works!
I'll have my leader and my enticement :D
TEMAC 2013 10th Annual Funfly prizes:
Our events coordinator, Jack Higgins, has made me responsible for awarding prizes this year.
In a slight deviation from the whimsical awards offered at previous funflys, this year the prizes will take on a slightly more serious tone.
Prizes are:
Best Scale Model
Best Sport Model
Best Multi-Motor Model
Best Customization, Performance or Innovation with an ARF
Best Original Design or Scratch Built
Best Kit-Built Model
Contest Director's Choice
Pilot's Choice
... and ...
there will be 3 Special Recognition Awards.
Does propping up count as a performance modification for the ARF category?

The prizes will be awarded with consideration for innovation and effort in the models.
If the most impressive achievement on an ARF at TEMAC is putting on a bigger prop, then this would win the prize.
I put stickers on mine. Beat that....

I'm glad to see the creative spirit is so vibrant.
I'll do some marker colouring on mine, beat that Mike! :D
There may also be a random glue blob on the fuselage. Which I totally intended to be there, you know to enhance looks and /or performance of the model.
My enticement had its wings CA'd back on,
The CA is totally meant to be splotchy and stuff!!
For speed...
Definitely ;)
What about restored scratch builds?

Could be best scale, could be best sport, is it a multi-motor; could be best multi.
Could be CD's choice; could be pilots' choice.
OHH YEA, MY LEADER WAS DESTROYED AND IT STILL FLIES! lol
Yeah but that would be stealing credit for Frank's work
who said ill take the credit ;)
Michael, thanks for attempting to focus us on modelling innovation and effort and for organizing and posting the prize categories!
Serious questions about this weekend's FunFly,
1. Are we following Jack's Air Show format? Although I don't often fly at FunFlys, I like Jack's Air Show format, especially the limiting of traffic.
2. I also really like air shows (full size or models) with a commentator I can actually hear. Michael? P.A.? If we're bringing scale models, should we bring a write-up about the model/real aircraft modelled or is it too late to organize this? Sometimes, past TEMAC events have included some of this, IMHO improving the quality of the "show".
Even though FunFly suggests informality, my questions stem from a feeling that the flying at a club "event" should be different from regular Sunday afternoons which are always fun flys.
Hi Bill
This funfly is not going to be one of the air-show format events; it's just a regular funfly, where I suppose several will bring out some of their nicer planes for some friendly showing-off and just for fun.
There will be funflying, a barbeque, racing, more funflying, awards, an auction, and more even more funflying.
I expect we'll have a more formal type event next year at what will probably be a bigger and combined jets/warbird event.
I just finished putting the final touches on my Norseman, so I'm looking forward to Sunday to get it into the air. If its as calm as the long range forecast says it will be, I'll be bringing along the big old beasts for an airing as well.
Eric
Eric,
Looking forward to seeing your Norseman...I'm impressed you managed to get it done!
Michael,
Thanks for the clarification...I'll enjoy the day whatever it holds.
Way to go Eric, it was getting lonely!
Jack.
Jack, Bill, and Michael (and everyone else!)- unnless something drastically changes I shall be bringing 2 airplanes and a daughter. Having missed out last year I'm especially looking forwaed to seeing you all. :) :)
Tom Muir
Great Tom, we are looking forward to seeing you, your models and your daughter.
Jack.
This is torture! Cant wait for Sunday! Did a once over of the fleet and all is prepped.
I will be bringing the RV so washroom facilities are provided should you or your others require.
I got some goodies ready. Tomorrow will be busy preparing.
Had I started on my Yak sooner, it would be ready for Sunday. Sadly, unless some magic happens, it won't be :(
Just want to wish everyone "fun times" at the Fun Fly tomorrow. Sorry I can't be there but I hope everyone has an awesome day. I hope friendships, old and new, are enjoyed and can't wait to see photos of the wonderful models that I'm sure will be there.
Cheers!
Simon
There will be tons of pictures. Weather looks good and we are all excited. Just going to leave the house to get some last minute surprises for the event. Sorry you can't be there. But from the images you sent on FB I would swap anytime to place in your sisters castle. Oh that doesn't sound good. But have a good time!
It won't be the same without you, Simon, but we'll do our best to choke back the tears and get on with the fun ;D
I'll be there early and I'll bring my Zero, Sparrow Hawk, Nooner, Foamy Spitfire (for formation flying), and the SE5a.
BTW, my Flyzone Spitfire, stock set-up, flies at 57mph during a level pass :)

I'm going to try for that, i'm gonna restore my crashed scratch build :D
I will have at least a dozen airplanes there. I will just open up the back of my car and fly what suits me at the time.
Yes, my 14" span and 18" span Pitts are coming!! I have to re-build them every time I land. The little one either goes ballistically fast or it just decides it doesn't want to fly any more and literally tumbles out of the sky at half throttle. Go fast or go home. ;D
Hey Jack, I am bringing my F27 (twin)!! finally.
Frank
What an awesome day at TEMAC!
Many thanks to Jack and his crew for organizing such a fun event and making TEMAC a fun place to spend an afternoon.
Right now although I'm pretty happy with the win in the Nooner racing, the recognition of my friends for my work as CFI means the most to me, and rest assured the certificate will find a place of honour in my workshop for years to come.
Now I shall enjoy a cold beer and put my feet up and rest in the satisfaction of an excellent day of flying.
Mike
The 10th annual TEMAC funfly was our best ever!
The day started with casual flying, with many planes in the air ranging from Frank's micros to Robert's, Andre's and my quarter scale planes, several big jets and super-fast competition models.
Next was a terrific lunch (nothing beats barbeque hotdogs at the field ;D ), and then we had our Nooner races.
After some more funflying we had an auction of items donated by local hobby stores, and then more flying.
We also had 7 WW2 models in the air flying coordinated (or trying to) at the same time.
Ben and Ed flew their super fast competition gliders together; Jack and Eric flew their Norsemans together, and then there was more WW2 flying.
After that we gave out 12 awards (photos to come soon) and then more flying.
I would guess we had at least 40 cars parked at the field, and about 150 model airplanes.
It was a totally enjoyable day!
Sorry you missed it Simon.

Note Mike's new profile photo :) Nicely done.
Just wanted to echo the other guys and say what a great day it was; the best fun fly yet for sure. The shear volume and diversity of planes was tremendous. Thanks to all who took part in organizing a super day of flying and fellowship.
Eric
It was an amazing day, i only got 4 flights but the main reason i actually go is to be in such a amazing atmosphere, talk to everyone and watch everyone fly. You guys are amazing and whether or not i fly, i have a amazing time :) Thanks to everyone that makes this happen :)
To be honest despite the super amazing time I had today nothing about it is a surprise.
We have gleaned a group of spectacular individuals to call friends and fellow club mates. Our executive does all in the name of fun with no hidden agenda. I just hope others are feeling the same as I am right now.

what a way to end a vacation :) ... good times, good food, awesome planes, and a great bunch of friends to spend the day with!
can't wait for number 11!
Couldn't agree more with Ed!
Today was a really awesome day, and I enjoy every single minute watching all those planes in the air, from the little micros to Rob's and Michael's giant-scale aircraft.
Congrats to everyone who won an award, but I think its most important to mention a few: 1)Special congrats to Mike for being a great CFI and that's an award very well deserved; 2)Congrats to Rob for the Pilot's choice award with the SE5.
I had a great time today, and I met quite a few new people, learned new things, acquired a few new additions to my rapidly growing hangar ;D

DEFINITELY!
Sure sounds like it was a great event! I really would have liked to be there, but this past weekend is traditionally our softball playoffs weekend. Maybe next year ?

The finish on your F86 is amazing!
Just beautiful!
Glad you made it Tom! Hoping Andy and helpers will post a full gallery of the event but until then, my photographer took a few shots and short videos of "Canadian" models at the event.Canadian Jets at TEMAC Fun Fly August 25, 2013 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq_Wma8pka8#)
