Title: For sale again - Amazing Dave Patrick 1/4 scale clipped wing Super Cub
Post by: Michael on February 07, 2014, 07:52:09 PM
I purchased this model from Esprit Hobbies in Florida in 2006.

This is one of the finest 1/4 scale ARF's ever produced, is highly desired, and is an amazing flyer; it's not your typical Piper Cub.

It's powered by an AXI 5300 series brushless motor, a 77amp Jeti speed control, and runs on 10S 8000 mah batteries!

It is the best flying aerobatic (not 3d) plane I have ever flown, capable of bold maneuvers and high-speed flight.
It has a semi-symmetrical 88" wing, which allows phenomenal flight performance, totally unlike a Piper J3 Cub.

The model comes with 2 sets of 2 packs of 5S 8000 mah batteries.
The batteries have never been run down, have never puffed up, and are in excellent shape.

The plane was built by the owner of Esprit Hobbies, and was his personal model.
It is featured in the video (link below); it is the one with the small yellow decals on the sides of the fuselage.
The power system is not exactly as shown in the video; it is now bigger and stronger.

The radio is powered by a separate 2-cell lipo through a BEC.
The entire system has been 'rock-solid' reliable.
Field set-up is easy and takes only 5 minutes.

I purchased the model fully built and ready to fly.
It was shipped to me built from Florida.
It weighs about 17 pounds with the batteries.

There are no 1/4 scale ARF clipped-wing Super Cubs on the market, from anyone.

This plane and the batteries (and everything else) cost me at that time, $4,000.

There are some minor scrapes and such, but the model is at least 9/10 in quality and finish, and 11/10 in flight performance!

The model is for sale (without receiver) for $1,200.

Now $1,000.

Now $800.

Anyone interested is asked to respond here in this thread.

Hi Michael,

Had I the space to store it, a way to move it and the time to fly it I would be all over this  :)

Sell this, and you will have to change your avitar on RCG  ;)

No flaps (since it is the clipped wing version).

Strictly 4 channels.

Very easy to fly; very easy to take off and land; very sporty and capable of speed and aerobatics.

Never crashed.

It's a phenomenal airplane, and it's a very cheap way to get into giant scale, except you'd be starting at the top of the quality range.

Honestly, how is it to get in & out of our field? I.e approach & take-off run?

Like I said: "Very easy to take off and land."

It has lots of power and can take off in about 1/3 field length at 1/2 throttle.

The plane flies so well (and so straight, or wherever you point it), that it's easy to instinctively judge how to land it.

I've flown it since 2006, and have never had a crash.

True, Simon has to include the cost of a car in the price of the plane.

Dear Lesley:

The fuse of Simon's new clipped wing super cub should make an excellent addition to the drum set for your band.  I'm thinking Tom Tom. :)

Folks,

After much consideration, I have decided to sell this plane again.  I've done a lot of thinking, but for me, it's just too big.  I only fly it once or maybe twice a year, so someone else should really enjoy it.

1 of the lipo packs failed, so I can sell it with 3 x 5S 8000mAh lipos, otherwise it's as listed.

I will also be listing on RC Canada, but price for TEMAC members $700

Simon, if you sell this cub, what will you fly at the Fun Cub Fly?  http://temac.ca/smf/index.php/topic,6029.msg39427.html#msg39427

See, I am not evil, I am thinking about you.
