Flight Instruction / May 15- We trained!! Four new...
Last post by Frank v B - Yesterday at 10:57:40 PM
A busy night for training.  Came early to fly my own two planes (didn't happen) and prep for training.

New members David, Tony, Omar and Victor showed up to see their trainers fly.  Two were able to get stick time on their planes and two had them maidened but we had the usual Spektrum buddy box problems.
New member George B. showed up, told us he could fly, he did and we immediately conscripted him to instruct.  Thank you George.  Kind of you.

Thanks to Paul and Mark for plane prepping duties. Frustrating when transmitters from the same family cannot communicate between themselves.

Photo report:
83- Jet Jockey David- another tough day at work.
84- Michael with his F-86
86- Michael with his newly finished SE5A Bipe.  Beautiful work.
89- It took a long time before Mark stopped smiling after the successful maiden of his home built Mambo
90- New member Victor powering up his Apprentice.
93- Victor's plane before its first flight.
94- David and instructor George after their second flight together.  David gave George two thumbs up!
97- Noah and Paul sorting out a new T-28.
00- Noah and Paul doing the walk of shame after picking up pieces of yellow foam from an old T-28
03- new member Tony and his massive T-28.  Maidened by Kenny.
04- TMU students/alumni Vlad and Bill showed up just as I was leaving.
05- TMU grad student Maya showed up with their latest Tuc Tape experiment.  They called it an airplane.
06/07- A TMU airplane is made up of $10 worth of white foam, $10 worth of Tuc Tape and at least $500 worth of telemetry.

A good evening

A bit more work today. The wing sadle is made of 1/4 inch planks laminated. I kept the bottom of the planks aligned so I can use that for the base of plywood that will provide the wing bolt. The planks are then rounded and sanded to conform to the fuse profile. I found this fairly easy with a micro plane and sanding bar. The last picture is of the landing gear mounts. hardwood with plywood shoulder reenforcements.

It was kind of a rainy day and I had time to get started on the fuselage. I put the 1/4 inch logerons on the plan and carfully measured the placement of the bulkheads, marking the longerons as I went. I then slowly and carfully positions everything over the plans. I now build using a metal building board and magnets. Once everthing was in place and held by magnets I glued everything together using medium CA.  I am quite satisfied with the results. As stated previously, I like to round the trailing edge of the stab and round the leading edge of the control surface. This allows for the hinge to be embeded into the leading edge of the control surface and makes for a nice tight gap, while still allowing rotation.

Sorry Greg, I didn't see your post until now.

I haven't flown it.  When I bought it used I think it came with a 5S - not 100% positive.

IMG_0220.jpgIMG_0221.jpgIMG_0228.jpgThe elevators are 1/8th balsa with 1/16 "ribs" added to the top and bottom surfaces. The trailing edge of the stab is grooved to accept the leading edge of the elevators to assure a nice tight fit and small gap between them. DuBro hinge tools were used to cut slots in the surfaces, and then small hinges installed. Happy with the finished product.

Outer wings are done, so it's on to the landing gear.  Since the brass threaded inserts worked so well for the L-39, they're going into the Bronco.
I've got a bit more to work with so I'm using a 3mm x 6mm threaded insert this time.
But, there's always something.
Pushing that long an insert through melting plastic allowed that melting plastic to feed into the open end of the insert.  Completely filled the 3mm interior.
So, I did what anyone else with this problem would have done... I left to watch a movie.  The Beekeeper with Jason Statham... excellent.
When I came back, I took a 3mm long set screw and screwed it into the threaded insert flush with the end.  Now, while melting, the plastic has no where to go but around the insert.
Remove the 3mm set screw and all is clear.

Ok thank you but I'm looking at it now, is there any difference in the ar 630 or the ar 631. If so is the ar 631 worth it?
