Title: Favourite foam filler?
Post by: sihinch on September 06, 2015, 10:50:23 PM
I'm about to start building a Jepe version of a FlyFly model. It is unpainted EPS foam and I intend to glass the model.

What are people's favourite filler to use for preparing a foam surface before glassing?

I've heard mention of "model magic" but I think that's discontinued and "spackle" but I think that is a generic name.

Help please!

Hi Simon,
I was told this was one of the preferred products by a few people, I have used it once and liked it.
It is light and seems fairly flexible.

I had bought it at a show in the US but they ship to Canada regularly. It isn't toxic so shouldn't be any issues.
Actually I just checked their website and Great Hobbies and Pinnacle are both vendors. I seem to remember seeing it at Great Hobbies in Mississauga.
If you have any questions, Pete is really good to answer questions about the product, his contact is on the website: http://foam-tac.com/contact-us.html#.Ve24kZfx1vB

Hi Simon,

Model magic is available at Pinnacle and Iv'ed relied on it for years.
Which Flyfly?
Have you covered this way before?
I can tell you how I do it. I even have a really good article on it.

Kind regards,

Ken

Thanks for your tips, Guys!

It's the F-4 Phantom Ken. Would love to see your article. I've only covered balsa and small areas of foam with glass cloth before. So this will be my first, whole airframe.
