Title: Beech Staggerwing
Post by: Andy Hoffer on March 14, 2021, 12:25:54 PM
Back in February I bought a medium-sized (wingspan 45 inches; fuseage 38 inches.) vintage 3-channel Beech Staggerwing from Karl Mandjik.

My main motivations were the funky looks of the model, and the opportunity to prevent @frank from cluttering up the family washing machine which doubles as his studio for his build photos.  (@kmandjik's great deal on a solid, doped fabric covered plane didn't hurt either.)  The plane needs to be outfitted with a full power system, RX, servos, and linkages.  Retrofitting pushrods in a fully covered, tapered fuselage is fun.  I tried using trained cockroaches to do some of the awkward interior placements in the aft end of the fuselage, but they were uncooperative, complaining about the poor working conditions (not enough detritus).  I told them to check out Frank's van and bid them adieu. I then did some yoga stretches for my hands, wrists and arms, and embarked on my new career as a contortionist.  Having solved the puzzle of getting the pieces into position, I set about gluing up a support rail frame for the servos.  Somewhere I had heard about the virtues of carpenter's glue so I gave that a go.  No sooner had the glue hit the wood than a horrific spectre appeared in my shop.  It's like a recurring nightmare that manifests at the most inopportune times.  I'm hoping that a COVID-19 vaccination will eventually make this go away.

I think flying in high winds is less stressful.  I'm going to the field.....

Could I please borrow someone's Andy to English dictionary?  I try to understand what he's saying in his native tongue but I always end up shaking my head wondering if he's speaking Tamarian.
