Onboard Video

So, I got a small onboard camera to mess around with and thought I'd show my trials and tribulations here.

The first one is taken from the camera mounted on a small platform above the tail section of my Parkzone Spitfire.  The goal was to test the vantage point for use on larger planes.  Eventually I'd like to get the view with the fuselage and wings in the foreground with a good look ahead of the aircraft.  This worked out O.K. with the small spit, but the forward view is restricted.  I hope for a better effect on the larger planes.

This second vid is from the camera mounted on the right wing of my electric glider.  It provided a fairly nice platform for some scenic shots.

I'm not thrilled with the quality of the image, but it's a good starting point.  Greg C has ordered another small camera for me that I hope will produce a better quality video.

BTW, both are unedited, raw clips, and yes, I know my take-off and landing suck!

Eliminating high frequency vibration is the key. That will eliminate the video tearing evident in the first video.

@bfeist , Are you referring to the wobble as I taxi out?  I'm sure that's because I mounted the camera on a 3/16 dowel, sharpened on one end and shoved into the tail of the Spit ahead of the fin.  A crude method to try the camera out     I'm not surprised it's a little unstable...

No, i mean the ripples in the video like it's an old TV not scanning properly. This is caused by the CMOS sensor painting the image from top to bottom at 60hz, with a vibration at 300Hz or so causing a wiggle effect. The video industry refers to this as tearing.

Nice. I had the keychain too. I found on a sunny day, if you mount under the fuselage and the camera not seeing the prop, you get a better result.

I think it's very similar to the 808 keychain camera.

I tried the new camera called Mobius. This one can produce 1080p hd. Its 1/5 of the cost of Gopro yet produce close to Gopro quality. The weight is very light. Perfect for flying.

I tested it with my rc boat (my future rescue boat for float fly) and it's quite good.

The next step is flying FPV.... I saw many cushioning mounts and pads that can reduce vibrations but these will not work with the mount you used for the spitfire.
