Temp -5C, Wind chill -15C

Wind NW 20 gusting 35 kmh

Snow depth on set-up tables: 2-1/2"
Snow depth on field: 6"

The fresh dry snow from last night's dump is beautiful, soft, fluffy and relatively dry.  It does not stick to skis at all.  And you would have to try really hard to bounce a landing!!

Of course, crosswind technique is a must for take-offs and landings aligned with the invisible runway.  But you already knew that !!

In a word, a simply fabulous winter day for fabulous winter flying at TEMAC Rogo Field. Gotta love it!!

Can you describe the math on the motors- total watts?
Looks like it has more than enough power to take off water.
Great project.

Good question.

Here's my fuzzy logic .....

I'm using 2 sets of twin motors and speed controls from Flite Test Widgeons; these are the mid-size foamy twins that a few of us fly at the field. The planes weigh approx. 2½ pounds.

These use 1250KV motors with 30 amp speed controls, on a single 3-cell 2,200 mah battery packs. They provide enough power to take off from any surface, and to fly vertically (really, really high) without stalling. I do not know how many amps are being drawn, nor how many watts are being produced.

I did however, put one of these power systems in a heavier scratch-built plane, and it also flew very well.

My older Seagull flies easily with a .25 eflite motor on a 4-cell 5,000 mah pack. This planes weighs approx. 5 or 6 pounds.

I simply figured that 2 of the Widgeon systems should be more than adequate for this project. Power will be provided by separate wiring to the outer and inner motors, but all from a single 3-cell 5,000 mah battery pack. Propellors on will spin in opposite directions to opposing wings (from the back; left wing clockwise, right wing counter clockwise).

My personal experience is that twin motors seem to produce more efficient thrust than what twice what a single motor would be expected to provide. I'm guessing, also based on some experience, that 4 motors will be even more efficient.

ps: every time I see you build on the pool table I think of the Beverly Hillbillies episode where they sit around the fancy eating table with the fancy pot passers (cues).

Great idea!
I will go over all of my planes and gliders to see what hangar rash has occurred.

havent posted in a while so decided to update everyone on what ive done this winter. this is the building channel so this is just the physical adjustments

BAE hawk-ive decided to remove the main gear doors as they have failed even with the gear up on the ground. also i have played with the gyro a bit and set it on throttle based gains so that as my throttle stick goes up my gains decrease. lastly im testing higher rates on it, 150% max rates for high rates but ive still kept dual rates with my current setup so that if its too high i can bring the rates back. have to decide if i want to cut off the main gear wires used to open and close the doors.

F16-a lot of stuff has been done to the f16, mainly my nose gear door which i was waiting for 3 months finally came in 2 days ago and has been installed. ive also fixed many issues on the first flights such as the gyro, CG and rates.
ive done many other mods to it that im not going to share just yet that im testing on the ground.

futura-not much more i can do on it but like the hawk ive maxed out the rates and adjusted the gyro to be more specific for that plane.

will post more pictures later once i get the time

General Discussion / Oakville Milton Swap meet
Last post by Frank v B - February 02, 2025, 10:03:33 PM
Today three of us braved the weather to see what was for sale.  Andy, Glenn and I dropped by.  There is always interesting stuff for sale.  Large (12x8) 3 bladed props (new) for $5 each.  Bought all 3.  Beautiful folding Cam prop blades (12" diameter), new in package for $2.00 for two sets, covering for about 20 cents on the dollar.  Glenn snagged some repair Solartex for his planes.

Andy bought a box full of bits and pieces from an estate for a song- almost literally.

Glenn was talking to someone who looked vaguely familiar- it was Andy (Telfer?) from the early EMFSO days (late 90's) when indoor RC flying first started.  He flies with the Burlington boys.

A small swap meet but a heck of a lot more interesting than sitting at home on a cold winter morning.
