Just been up to the flying site but couldn't drive off the main road to our field due to the snow bank at the side of the road. Just a bit too high to risk getting stuck - shame because the weather was good!
Can we get the road cleared for access like it was last year?

Michael

I'll discuss this with the board; it's a fair request.

Please note, that a large amount of snow, high winds, and extremely low temperatures are forecast for the next number of days.

I drove past the field today... yikes... there is double no access now... well over a foot of snow at the entrance... and not the nice fluffy stuff.  Worst flying winter in many years.  The snow is one thing and easily dealt with.  It's the cold and wind... sheesh.

Hi @davidk and @Michael,

Any chance of getting the snow cleared from the entrance, driveway, and parking area so we can take advantage of this fabulous snow when it warms up later this week?

Andy,

I will let you borrow my snow shovel.
You're retired.

I didn't say that. Did I?  ;)

Snow removal at TEMAC is very expensive. Weather forecasts are severely crazy cold and extremely windy for several days.

When the forecast is conducive to having at least a few flyers come out (say approx. -3 degrees, sunny, and low winds), then it's likely.

Last year we spent many hundreds of dollars clearing snow, only to have warm (melting) temperatures one or two days later.

Just looked at next weeks weather. There is no snow or rain forecast and there are a few days that should be quite flyable.
Definitely no significant thaw in sight but definitely flyable if you wrap up.
Worth a go at getting the access cleared now?

A snow clearing last winter cost $1,100.

Thursday 1pm: -14 feels like -23
Friday 1pm -15 feels like -24
Saturday -14 feels like -22

60% chance of snow next week Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

3/4 board members vote to wait. (4th board member did not vote.)

We will re-visit this in a few days. We want to fly just as much as you do.

Thanks @Michael and the Board. Looking forward to a sweet spot in the weather.

Didn't realise it was so expensive to clear the snow!
Definately need to wait till conditions improve to justify clearing access!
Back to building!
