Every year we pick a random date to meet at Tim's Woodbine then go to Rogo.  It has worked out every year somehow.

Sunday March 15- 11:00 am at Tim's Woodbine then leave for Rogo Field at 11:30 if the weather is reasonable.  Here's hoping the snow will have melted, the ground is still firm enough so Peter's 4 wheel drive Jeep will not be the only vehicle that can make it through.  Oh, and the winds are less than hurricane force. ;)
Depending on the weather it may only be one quick flight or several good ones.

Confirmation or cancellation will be posted here on Saturday morning March 14.

Fingers crossed.  Please do the sundance.

What could possibly go wrong?

Actually, it's very spring-like weather today, Saturday, February 21. Temperature is 1°C. Sky is overcast. There is fresh snow on the ground, and even fresher snow that is falling right now, just enough to make its presence felt, without making it uncomfortable to fly. (A rain cover for your radio is a good idea.) Winds are east southeast at 10 to 15 km/h.  So, all in all, a fairly pleasant day to fly.

See you on March 15......, but

"Beware the Ides of March!"😂

13:22.
Very light south-southeast winds.
Skies overcast. Temperature 2°C.
Very light snow falling.
Beautiful snow conditions on the field.
Driveway is in good condition, with one to 2 cm of fresh snow cover.

Back to flying...............!

I guess spring saw its shadow and jumped into the portapotty for shelter.  Wind chill at 5:45 pm was -17 degrees Celsius!

Winds NW gusting to 47 kmh.

Deceptive crust on the snow.  Best to step forcefully to control the crunch, as opposed to stepping gingerly, thinking that it will support you, and then having it fail unpredictably under foot.  Tall rubber boots, or better yet snowmobile boots, are recommended.

Definitely wicked weather, but worth the thrill of feeling like you're on the set of "March of the Penguins"in Antarctica!!🐧🐧🐧🐧

Honestly, you won't find a more beautiful winter day. Not too cold, and not too windy. Snow is firm with a very light dusting of fresh stuff. It doesn't get any better.  Mostly sunny, with scattered cloud.

Sorry. Can't make it. Taking the family on a road trip to get a bit of pre season warm weather. Enjoy.

So kind and generous of spirit for @Frank v B to have ordered in a special shipment of winter white stuff for us to kick to the curb on Sunday.  He didn't get the MAAC Leader Award for nothing.
I'm sure he will be offering master classes on winter flying this Sunday as a warmup for the 2026 training season!

What a great guy!😇

Thanks Frank!!

Confirming Tim's Woodbine 11:00 am tomorrow for a coffee with a very low probability of flying.  Will bring a hand-launch plane.

I have a Tim's card and will buy a coffee for anyone who shows up.

Frank

ps: the grief I got at home.  "you are doing what on Sunday?"  Good thing I treated it as a rhetorical question.  No sense digging a deeper hole for myself. ;D

Yes I am going...for two reasons:
i) I said I would
ii) more importantly- if this is the dumbest thing I do this year, every other "mistake"
will look so smart compared to this move.  Everything in life is relative. ;D  ;D  ;D

Coffee is on me*.

The 40 minute trip home will allow me to figure out how to deal with my issues at home.  You did what!**

Frank

* guaranteed this won't cost me much.
** two days of ugly looks and then life will be back to normal.

Yahoo!  Mountain Dew!  It's good for you!!

@Frank v B has delivered!!

Nice firm wind-driven snow and strong gusty ESE winds to play with.  Great for practicing ground loop recovery and 0 AGL taxi inversions!!😇

Executive Summary:
- Four showed up for coffee at Tim's
- Three went to the field
- Two flew.  Mine was the shortest flight ever that was not a crash on take-off (one quick 100' circle)..... which was my only smart decision today.

Weather summary: Awful interspersed with even worse conditions.

Photo 1- my plane on the table before the quick flight.
Photo 2- heavily redacted photo* of the 4 of us at Tim's.  The other two did not want to be identified for fear of repercussions at home. ;)

Something the four two of us should be wearing.
