Title: F3P Team Canada on TV
Post by: pmackenzie on February 28, 2015, 10:31:23 AM
Well at least one of the team members  ;D . CHEX did an interview with our Junior team member on Friday.

A few of you saw James fly at the Dome with his old model. I think someone posted a video.
He has a new much lighter one, and as I predicted in the Dome fly thread it is going to be hard for the rest of the team members to place ahead of him in Poland in a couple of weeks.  :-[

He is a great representative for what Canada is all about.

All of TEMAC will be rooting for you guys in Poland.

Good Luck.

Hi Guys,
We have been in Poland for a few days, so a quick report
One of our guys models  (Paul Hepworth's) was really badly damaged in shipping.

One of the mounts than hold the model in position in his box broke loose, and the weight of it was enough to just about bend the model in half.
After a fair bit of work we have it flying, but it is still not quite right.
He is going to make a couple of more changes , so hopefully he can get it flying well enough for the final practice session tomorrow that he can get in some actual training flights, not aborted trim ones.

The hall we are flying in is huge. It is a velodrome and extremely tall, so this is taking some getting used to.
Even higher than the Dome fly site I think
James in particular has done the majority of his flying in a much smaller space, so he is having some trouble placing his maneuvers.
It is causing me problems as well, since I don't fly outdoor aerobatics like Paul and Xavier.

James is getting a lot of attention due to his age, and got the only round of applause I have heard so far  :)

The level of flying is extremely high, quite intimidating.

Team Canada's final practice session is tomorrow is from about 2PM to 5PM local time.
So about 9AM to noon in TO if I have my math right.

I understand you can watch it live here:

Full schedule is here, they keep very close to the posted times.

Thank you for updating us, it makes it so much more personal.

Sorry to hear of your tribulations but we know you will adapt and overcome and succeed.

Good luck.

Jack.

As I predicted James did beat two of the three senior Team Canada members, me being one of them  :)

I never did adapt well to the huge space, and one change I did make to fly the "bottoms" of my maneuvers at eye level did not really work out for me.
I was too used to seeing the plane from above when setting up for the next maneuver. I need to do more outdoor acrobatic flying I guess  ;D

Here is my second flight from day 1. I flew better on day one, just could not put together a clean flight today to keep me off the bottom of the score sheet.

Here is  James second  flight

He kept his "bottoms" at about the same height that he did them at home.
He was able to put in four more or less consistent flights, while  I had problems at some point in each flight.

FWIW, just found out that there will be a partial solar eclipse here this morning.

Made a simple pin hole viewer to see it with.

Last time I recall seeing one this was quite a few years ago.
I had a binocular viewer set up in my backyard, and Vic Walpole happened to drop by with his wife.

We all went and out back watched it for a while.
Nice memory
