Hey Guys, I am just finishing building a Timber Balsa ARF.  I have the wing control surfaces aligned to the root of the wing or closest to the fuse - Flaps + Ailerons.  This plane has wing tips at the outside of the wing and the surfaces are sitting roughy 3mm below these tips at the trailing edge - equal amount off on both sides.

Now the question.  Do I align the surfaces to the outside edge or the root of the wing.

I should mention the flaps are at full throw up being flat to the root (can't go any further up.  If I align to the outside of the wing the ailerons will sit 3mm about the flap for alignment.

Thanks in advance for recommendations.

Michael

The parts of the aileron furthest from the fuselage (closest to the wingtips) are more effective.

I would have those parts (nearest to the wingtips) of the ailerons exactly level with the wingtips.

I sometimes put both ailerons slightly up by about 1 to 1.5 mm. This makes the plane slightly less susceptible to stalling.

The important thing is that they are the same on both sides.
What could possibly go wrong?

Geoff,

Michael is right to make them level with the tips, otherwise you are building in "wash-in" into the wing which will speed up a stall.  Err on the upside.
