Gorgeous!!  The spring weather that just keeps on giving!!

Sky: overcast
temp.: 17 degrees Celsius
Wind: SSE gusting to 36 kmh

Great conditions for flying backwards and making sure you've got at least 50% charge left in your battery!! 🤪

General Discussion / how to make custom profile ico...
Last post by Noah - May 27, 2025, 11:20:31 AM
I might be extremely late on this or maybe people know but its not something they want to do. however i have seen online ways to create custom images for plane profiles on NX transmitters. thought it looked really cool and tried it for myself and it worked great. i know some people have hundreds of planes so its not ideal to do this for every plane but thought it would be cool to share incase anyone wants to do this.

i added an example of how it looks on the f16 and if anyone wants to try it the instructions are in the photo beside it

to clarify this was not my idea nor my instructions this was just found on the internet

It was almost Too Good.  Beautiful sunshine.  Could have used more wind but no complaints.

Here are some more photos.

Thanks Mark.

Several people asked me why I only did two circuits and landed.  That's what I always do.
See point 6 on my 12 year old post on "How I maiden Airplanes"
https://temac.ca/smf/index.php?topic=3826.0

Look what this one 2-circuit flight checked off the list considering this was an incomplete kit without instructions:
- enough power to take off.  Actually I could probably switch to 4 cells from the 5 cells I was using.
- the prop, ESC and Motor did not leave the ship and did not overheat.
- first time I have ever used a dolly.
- the largest plane I have ever flown. A real knee-knocker.
- CG was fine.  Purely a guess on my part (nothing published).
- aileron and elevator throws were too sensitive but manageable.  Dialled them back 25% after landing.
- the plane held together- actually it was the first time it was fully assembled.  My basement is not made for quarter scale gliders.
- landed fine without spoilers.  This was the scariest part.
- no real change in pitch with power on and power off. Great but pure luck.  This kit was a pure glider that I converted without any guidelines!!
- the plane lives to fly another day.

That's a lot off the checklist for only two circuits.
What more can a pilot ask for???
No garbage bag required. ;D

Flight Instruction / Training Wednesday, May 28- I...
Last post by Frank v B - May 26, 2025, 09:03:54 PM
Training this coming Wednesday.  I'll be there regardless of the weather.  It just cannot be as bad as the last week (cold, stormy, rain all evening).  Now that we have that out of the way.  Be optimistic, bring suntan lotion.

Fun day today!
Really cool to see Glenn's "dolly" get the large gliders launched.

Maiden flight happened today.  Wonderful!!!!

I used Glenn's dolly for the maiden flight- 20-30 km winds, quite gusty from the north mostly down the runway.  Perfect.  I was hoping for a strong wind from the north because there were no spoilers on the wing.  One was missing so I covered it up until I get a chance to build one.

Summary
- 12' wingspan
- Power 32 on 5 cells.
- 16 x 8 folding prop

The flight- it jumped into the air after only a couple of feet because of a gust at only at half throttle.  It surprised me but was committed.
The plan was to only do two circuits and land. A very flyable plane.  The elevator and aileron throws were a little too high so I dialled them back 25% after the flight.
No more flying until I take it apart.  That's my approach to all maidens.

I was totally happy with the flight.  Thanks to Glenn for the dolly and the advice on how to handle the dolly take-off.

The photos are of me holding the this 12' glider (I am 6'2" tall) and Glenn's plane taking off the dolly.
