Today is the 79th anniversary of the May 16, 1943 Dambuster raid using the bouncing bombs using 19 Lancasters in 3 waves.  The oldest British airman was 27!  Most were 21-23 year old.  The flight briefing happened at 6 pm on this day.
They did not find out about their mission until this briefing.  Many thought it was to bomb the Tirpitz or the U-Boat pens in France.  At 6 pm they found out it was the 3 dams in the Ruhr Valley.
