Title: Powered Flight on Mars
Post by: Andy Hoffer on July 06, 2020, 08:35:12 AM
I'm sure we have the collective smarts in TEMAC to do something like this.  8)

The design process, constraints and solutions are absolutely incredible.  Not only are the scientists/engineers on this project scary smart, they are articulate and engaging communicators.  What a pleasure!

This is definitely worth watching.  What I find interesting is how much the host/narrator looks like our very own NASA guy, @bfeist.

Enjoy!

Great video Andy - Thanks for sharing
Aside from what you rightly call the "scary smarts" what I find amazing is that on the close-ups you see all the little screws, mountings, etc.
All it would take is one of the little screws to sheer off, and the whole endeavour is trashed.
And I thought flying my Timber with it's busted up landing gear was scary :)

That'll definitely be a cool test flight. The part that gets me is how thin the Martian atmosphere is. Must have been hard to design rotors that would work there.
