@Frank v B , rocket motor could be ignited after the X1 would be dropped, therefore not "launched" from the B-29.  :-X
I understand that you are not comfortable with this "brilliant" idea  ::) , so in an attempt to redeem myself and offer a small contribution, here is a 3-view drawing from Aerofred.

Fantastic Model Aviatiopn article @GuyOReilly .  I love the photo of the B-29 rasied up on hydraulic lifts for mounting the X-1.  I have never thought about that aspect of the full-scale test operation.  Very interesting article on two modelling approaches.  Thanks for sharing.
