General Discussion / TooGood Pond, Monday, May 3 su...

We had a great visit to TooGood Pond this afternoon.  Admiral Guy, Peter, Mark and Paul.
This was the windiest day yet when I have visited the pond.

Guy was successful in retrieving his boat that got stuck in the weeds a week ago.  The coupling on the prop shaft broke.  Paul assisted as safety officer and coach.

Flight Instruction / 2026- first training night- Th...
Last post by Frank v B - May 04, 2026, 08:48:29 PM
Looking to start training this Wednesday at Rogo field.
If you are new or looking to start training, please come to the field and we will get you going.
I will be there regardless of the weather.  Last year there was only one wash-out so all trips were worth it.

Any Temac member can fly on training day but students have priority.
Come on out and fly up a storm.  happy to help with test flights, trim flights.

Trial fitting the ribs, no glue at this stage.
The holes were 1/4 inch, then I discovered that carbon fibre sticks are only made using metric.  :-\
I wrapped the 6mm stick in thin paper (3 layers held in place with a light application of glue stick) so that they fit tightly but not overly so.
CA will be added to permanently fix the paper to the CF sticks and to the ribs.
Cap strips will solidify the ribs.

Hi Octagon, I'm starting the construction of the same kit. Do you have more pictures about your work?
Thanks

One adjustment.

When I chucked it for a test flight it slowly ran out of altitude and pancaked onto the ground.
- the battery was not charged- was hoping to see how well it behaved but not enough power.
The battery was a 2 S 300 mah.  Fully charging it should be fine for power.
- the CG was way too far forward.  For the test flight the battery was inside the hollowed out black canopy.  Cut a cavity for the battery on the bottom of the fuse.  It moved the battery about 3" backwards.  CG is much better.

Will try it again this Wednesday.

Building / Construction / Re: Fouga Cyclone
Last post by davidk - May 02, 2026, 03:39:38 PM
This Fouga Cyclone, in it's original form, was not worth printing.  The alignment connectors between fuselage parts and wing parts were the "filament" type which neither align nor connect.  Another user converted these into "T" connectors and shared his upgrade work so I bought the Cyclone files.  He also added structures for a front wheel and a rear wheel since the Cyclone was originally a hand launch.  Much better now.

While I was building the Cyclone, the clamp style holder of my desk lamp broke... again.  It's so old, but so handy to have an adjustable light.  I found a new one on Prusa Printables and now have my lamp back again.

While installing and testing the V-Tail servos I could not get them to move in the right directions AND stabilize in the right directions.  If I got one, I'd lose the other.  Then I remembered having the same issue with the Raven 64mm EDF.  I'm so glad I documented the process... even down to mentioning that different servos have their default movements in differ directions.  Sure enough this was the problem.  For the Cyclone I had the servos installed propery, but these PTK Servos move differently than the Corona Servos I used in the Raven.  I replaced the PTK with the Corona and now all is good.

Beautiful day!

Quite a few maidens (Mark's P-51, Paul's Warmliner, my Dollarama Special, Glenn's PT 17, Glenn's BAE Hawk, etc.) and near maidens (Michael and Dave's jets with flaps added).

Photo report:
01- Michael after his flight.
04- Dave after his re-maiden- now with flaps
07- Mark with his new build P-51.  Maiden went well.
09- George- it doesn't take much to make him grin from ear to ear.
10- Kenny, before his flight.  He had just arrived. Here is his Panther.
12- Loi arrived with 3 leaf blowers.
14- Peter and Glenn.
15- Peter's new plane with the orientation arrow.
16- Michael doesn't do business at the field but he decided to take Paul McCartney's phone call. ;D
