I usually fly on Sundays but cannot this week.  I should be there this Saturday 10-1.  Anyone needing help with flying, maidening or offering another opinion on what is wrong with me, please drop by.

Would like to give loops another try.
Hopefully my elevator will not abandon me this time  ;D

We went flying today.  Dave, Mark, William, Joseph and Vadim braved the puffy crosswind...from the west.  Very difficult for take-offs and landings but we were a stupid tough bunch.

Photos:
347- Dave finishing a repair on a loose nose.
348- Hold it this way for 10 minutes.
349- The grin says it all.
350- Floppy hat guy returned.
351- William took two flights before Joseph finished his homework.
352- William prepping for his first flight.
353- Never seen a spider like this before.
355- where the web was located.
356- Aw shucks.  Greg and a model.
358- Vadim gets a reprieve from house work.

I was there from 2 to 4. The wind was all over the place, but it was calm from 6 feet down, making takeoffs and landing easy.

How come you got 6 feet of calm air??? I'm flying with you from now on.

This morning it was a bit nutsy from the ground up.  Take-offs were ok, but landings were really interesting.  Lots of... 'going around !'.

Michael

6 smooth landings: 2 Cessna with flaps; 2 Yak jet with flaps; and 2 with with my Northstar.

It was very windy and 'rocky' up in the air.

Re: 353 - Spider.  I've never seen one before, either.  Beautiful spider.  Apparently it is a common Yellow Garden Spider... common to Canada and the US... of the species Argiope aurantia.  It is non-toxic but will bite you if you "bug" it.  "Yellow garden spiders often build webs in areas adjacent to open sunny fields where they stay concealed and protected from the wind."  This makes no sense as he was neither concealed nor out of the wind, regardless of Michael's afternoon  ;)

Re: 347 - Repair.  I'd repaired bits of this nose twice.  Frank told me I was "chasing" the damage... as each time I fixed one section of foam, another would start to crack.

Frank stuck 8 epoxy covered toothpicks into the foam... past the weak spots... and one toothpick into his thumb... and no... I did not laugh... no I didn't.  I was then ordered to hold the plane and Frank went off flying.  2 hours later Frank realized I was still holding the plane... and told me it was 5 minute epoxy !

A few snips of the toothpicks... and the nose of my Timber is solid.  Cheers Frank!  Nicely done.

David,

re: your "How come you got 6 feet of calm air??? I'm flying with you from now on."

You have it all wrong.  You, Mark, Joseph, William and I straightened out the wind with our low passes.  We only had enough time to rake the bottom 6' of air straight for Michael. ;D  From his comments, he appreciated our work. 8) 8)

David,

You asked about my RC airplane inventory.  I was wrong.  The current count is 61.
Meets my objective of being able to crash an airplane a week and fly for a year...... yet I am still one plane short. ;D

Rats... I thought you'd get tired of counting and quit... now I owe you a coffee and timbits.

Let me go and count mine... just kidding... I don't have to go anywhere... and I just need one hand.  But... oddly... like you... I seem to be one short.  ;D

You kids are having way too much fun!

I wish I would have made it today!  Was going to go for an hour at 3, but realised I didn't charge anything...  :(

I'm going to try to make it out tomorrow afternoon!
