So sorry I missed it. I'm now a little worried about that Morphine and next years series!

As best I can calculate that was 1:45 minutes compared to 1:02 to 1:06 for a Piker Class race.

It's pretty easy to win when almost everyone crashes out  :)   


I think next year's racing with be VERY tight and competitive as there will be a lot of fresh, new planes ready for the season, AND we have some new people ready to join in!

I agree that racing will be even more closely contested next year. And it will be great to have new racers and race planes.

Jack - are you saying the Piker racing is quicker than the EF1 race over the same distance?

That's what it appeared to me. I checked the running clock on the bottom from the time Robert said "zero" 'till the time I heard "Glenn 10" and it looked like a minute and forty five seconds. Looking at the EF-1 flying I felt they were much slower. I think if you calculated the drag coefficient of Morphine versus POGO it would be significantly lower. The Pogo might be a lot faster without the landing gear.

When I flew my Morphine with the EF1 guys at the TEMAC fun fly, my plane was faster and seemed to be able to turn tighter, so flew a tighter course.

EF1's are like nascars!
Not real fast.  Not great handling. heavy. 
  Its humorous that these are considered racers.
   The fact that a simple Nooner with an 18amp esc is faster is just icing on the cake that these are "americanized" racers!
Yea 400W/lb should about do it.. But wouldn't a nice round 500 be better?

But they look pretty and sound really good.  It's just a different style of racing.


However, I admit they do just look like they're flying around a big oval rather than really fighting for the last inch of space like our other racing series.   :)

I agree with Rob having raced both.  The EF-1 is heavier, grooves better but harder to turn quickly. 
It is also safe to say that the racing caution increases with the investment in the plane (my Nooner total= $100, my Pogo total= $325).
The EF-1 is a different definition of "fun". 
It is easy to find the limit of the Nooner.  I don't want to find out the limit of the EF-1  ;D

I agree with everything Frank said, and I'd add that the EF1 plane is easier to fly when racing. And although there is a price differential between the 2 (with the EF1 plane being pricier) a Nooner airframe is now $160! So add servos, ESC and a motor and you must be over $200.

I bought my Nooner kit and 28 mm motor (sealed in blister package) at the London swap meet for $50.00 total. Yes it was a deal.  Jack was my witness.


My dear wife:  I came up from the basement to see the dishwasher through a rinse/drain cycle (it did not drain earlier) and had my repaired Nooner in my hand to mask it and spray paint it.  She said "What is that?", "My repaired Nooner.  The fuse folded double in a crash".  She looked at me and said with a straight face "maybe you should go on the buddy box the next race".  With my luck it will be Andy on the other end of the trainer cord. ;D

With the E F1's you can't bank and yank, as they just  slow down to much in the turns. The Nooners can be flown like you fly a Q500 with a sport .40 nitro motor, 15% fuel and a 9x6 prop, running at 16k rpm.

What is the kv on the Nooner motors, has anyone tacked them to get the RPM? With the F 1 motors, the RPM is around 14-15k on a 8x8 prop, but I haven't tacked mine.

Another thing is the lipos, I have used the HK Nano Tech 4c 2650 35-70 for sometime now, getting good performance and have purchased some Dinogy's 4c 2600 65 to try.

I plan on getting some 10 lap times on the 3 pole course, with both novice and expert pilots.

Also I agree with everyone, F 1 is expensive and your looking at a $500. for a airplane ready to go.

We all run different motors in the Nooner Ken. The speed control is the limiting factor.  My 3 race planes all use differnt kV:

2200kV with 5.25x6.25 prop
2800kV with 4.7x4.2 prop and
3000kV with 4.1x4.1 prop
