Title: Buzzard Bombshell 70%
Post by: GuyOReilly on July 06, 2020, 11:13:48 AM
This will be an interesting build.
Should start when a suitable workspace can be secured...
Too many projects on the go at once...  ::)

First step completed.
A bit more sanding and carving on the bottom when the stab will be completed for appropriate contour.

Stab almost done, more sanding and filling required.

Guy,

just a minute.  How did this project go from:

"Should start when a suitable workspace can be secured...
Too many projects on the go at once...  ::)

To: "Stab almost done, more sanding and filling required."

... in 5 days?

Keep going.  We don't have to make sense in this hobby. 8) 8)

@Frank v B , seems that I have a short memory...  :-X I "forgot" that I have "a few" things on the go.  ::)
Mean people would blame it on age, I blame it on enjoying gluing pieces of balsa together.
The Minimoa is taking backseat for now as I ran into a hurdle and i need to figure out how to construct some stuff.
So thinking about another project clears the mind. Well, that is my story and I am sticking to it!! ;D

Guy,

I fully understand and appreciate the mental gymnastics.  Every model collection is one airplane short of perfect. ;D
Keep going.  There is a finish line. ;)

Planning the motor and battery installation.
Need to reinforce the former #2 with 1/16 plywood and add triangular stock.
This should work...

This is the motor that will be used in the Bombshell.
Should be adequate power.

Landing Gear soldered, I am happy with the results. ;D
Firewall and L/G blocks epoxied in place.  Not too much of a banana.  ::)

First time with wheels.
Fuselage weighs in at 4.2 oz. :D
The wheel 5.5 oz. total.  :o
I do not think I will use these wheels unless VERY tail heavy!

Bonjour @GuyOReilly ,

C'est très joli.  J'aime beaucoup les avions nostalgiques, et rouge et vert vont bien ensemble.

Andy

Ready for maiden flight!
2 pounds 2 ounces RFT.
I had to use heavier wheels due to CG concerns...

Congratulations @GuyOReilly !  Sorry I couldn't get there earlier this evening to photograph votre belle avion.   You had left when I arrived at 6:15 p.m. We will reconvene at another time and do some proper in-flight and static portraits.

Bravo!

Andy

@Andy Hoffer sorry I missed you, I had dinner to prepare and lawn to cut, the Honey-Do-List must be completed...  There will be other times.  Once trimmed by @Frank v B it caught a thermal and stayed up just like a glider.  I am soooooo HAPPY!!!!

Guy,

Maybe the maiden was successful because Andy could not make it.  ;) ;)
He has this effect on people.

I didn't say this, did I??

Frank

ps: good call on changing the 3S to 2S.  Still more than enough power but sure easier to handle.

Dumb things done.   :o
I did not follow my own advice about field repairs :-X  and tried to bind the receiver at the field and did not do a full verification of the settings.   ???
Too much up, too much down, too much right and left and there you have it. :'(
Repairable and will fly again soon...

The Bombshell has a new nose.
After an unfortunate encounter with Mother Earth, a rhinoplastic surgery was needed.
Longer nose that should correct any tail heaviness.
Ready for a re-maiden when weather and schedule cooperate.

I'm glad you waited the required 2 years before repairing the plane. I used to wait 3 :)

Next on the repair agenda: the Buzzard.
It suffered from a bad case of nose-first landing.   ::)
The Rhinoplasty Surgery has begun.
This should be a quick repair.  ;)

As expected, it was a quick repair.
Ready for the re-re-re-maiden flight.
Now on to the next project.
