Great colour combination.
That will be quite visible in flight.

Was it one of those airplane-attracting trees?

I was stopped.  I swear it!  That tree had to be going 140mph though!

She came in 120g heavier than expected... not sure why.  I weighed each part after printing.  Anyway... she's 1,335g and the two X-Fly 40mm 4S EDFs have 650g thrust each.  I hope she'll hand launch ok.  I'll wait for a good steady wind day for a maiden... the wind will help.  She sure is pretty.

So kind and generous of spirit for @Frank v B to have ordered in a special shipment of winter white stuff for us to kick to the curb on Sunday.  He didn't get the MAAC Leader Award for nothing.
I'm sure he will be offering master classes on winter flying this Sunday as a warmup for the 2026 training season!

What a great guy!😇

Thanks Frank!!

Guy:

answers:
1) sheeted leading edge top and bottom as well as center section.  Cap strips on each rib.
2) two servos from stock.  The plans show one central one with control cables.  Two servos are also safer...in case one fails.  The ailerons will be cut out of the trailing edge and will span the last 3 rib bays.

3) extra strengthening of the wing:
i) added shear webs of 3/32 instead of 1/16 in the kit and took them out to the tip.  The plans only show 1/16" shear webs on the first 3 ribs.
ii) The landing gear blocks will be extended across the wing, not the two little LG blocks between two ribs.  Will show this later.

Just sheeted the top of a wing half after dinner.  The photo of the balsa pin cushion shows the extent of the sheeting.

Note: the wing was pinned down to the building board because I was using carpenters glue (water based).  This is to avoid the wing warping due to moisture while the glue dries.  Also notice the piece of wood under the trailing edge (black arrow) of the sheeted wing-to add wash-out*.

Frank

* wash-out is to raise the trailing edge relative to the leading edge.  This allows the plane to delay a stall and signal when it is about to stall.

This is very cool.  He started with an excellent flying twin 50mm and then upscaled to a twin 64mm... with retracts!  Yikes.

The black paint in the second-from-left frame looks shiny because it's wet. It dries matte. This is better for me to paint on.

If you printed in black, I still would have painted it matte black.
