Title: How to turn 100' of farmland to a runway???
Post by: Papa on May 01, 2010, 02:14:04 PM
I'm looking for suggestions to put together a work party to turn our new 100' feet of land to the south into a runway. I wonder if a bunch of volunteers with garden tillers would do the job? say a half a dozen or so going back and forth followed by more volunteers with rakes and ending in a big seeding. Or does anybody have access to commercial equipment for smoothing out the land? lets see if we can get it operational by the end of June???

Jack, from my limited memory (correct me if I'm wrong) isn't the field around "our" area slightly LOWER than us?  If this is so ... wouldn't it be neccessary to FILL it to bring it up to the level of the runway?  Or would tilling the humps to fill the furrows be enough to level it?

I for one am extremely excited that we have acquired this bigger runway as I've been leaning towards bigger (or faster) models over the last few years.

Thanks Collin, I think it should work out ok and be nice and level. It will sure make for very scale take offs into a south wind and gliders will appreciate the extra length.
