For this addiction?????? Here I was going to buy a replacement prop for my Decathlon and what do I do? I end up dropping $80 on "assorted" props ... and at last count I already own EIGHTY FOUR. :o I need help ... and I need help BAD. ;)
Ok gotta run ... looking for a "small warmup plane" to buy in time for Beeton. Anyone got one? ;D
Colin
That's quite the collection. :o
You might need help, but you're talking to the wrong people. We're enablers..
I was curious about F5B planes and was reading around.... Now there is one at my house!
We could support each other but I'm not talking to ANYONE about a damn CURE!
Cure what ?! :o
You just need more storage Colin. ::)
I recommend peg boards on all your walls....Home depot has them... and then you can buy props.... in more colors and call them decoration... and then you can get some lights... track lights are good... Home depot has them too...Just make sure they are far enough because the heat can damage the props... and... damn..... my wife is calling me to help with the kids ... again ;-) ..... yes honey???

Excellent! Well, today the ESC for my F5B/F5D "hybrid" arrived after being in transit for 46 days! Anyway, better late than never ... FINALLY I can get my Swist's replacement up and going ... just in time for Beeton! It's been a awhile since I flew something really fast. (My last attempt (http://youtu.be/h483BE-paso)didn't go so well as you might recall ... been a rough year!)
Colin
I don't know.... Saying you are powerless over RC airplanes is such a double entendre.
It may not be PROPer!
Ken
Where is that filed? It looks like South Dakota? lol!
That was our Kingston FunFly. This was a really dry summer!
That video makes me sad every time I see it.
What's your replacement plane? Which ESC / motor etc?
Its a plane thats been around for a long time and under many different names. Apparently diferent vendors renamed it as their own or something like that. HobbyKing now carries it under the name of "Reverb (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=18453)". However since I've known about it for a long time and one of its names was the "Wasp", that's what I'm calling mine. ;D
Power system is the one transferred over from the Swist ... Mega 16/40/2CE, Sunrise ICE 100A esc and strarting with 4s moving up to 5s as things progress. Its no "Swist" but it should do nicely for now. ;)
Colin
Very cool, I've been eyeing the Reverb for awhile now, should scream on 5S!
Just one of its many other names ... The Mini Hawk (http://www.modellhobby.de/Models/Modelplanes/Electric-glider/MINI-HAWK-all-GFK.htm?shop=k_staufenb_e&SessionId=&a=article&ProdNr=0314044&t=3&c=31&p=31) ;)
Colin
The addiction continues!
I have a new recommendation for everyone at TEMAC that might help!
There has been just too much going on and too much cool stuff since ive joined TEMAC. Ive already jumped with both feet into my NEXT years plane budget and my wife has pointed out that each new plane is getting MORE EXPENSIVE!!
Could this be the cure that we all need?
Tell me about it! Since buying that jet from you I bought ANOTHER jet. :) (got too jealous of the jet boys at TEMAC) But hey our addiction all pales in comparison to Greg's. (not our past presi ... the current VP ;) ) It seems like everytime I log in he's buying another plane! LOL! ;D
Colin
I killed the motor in my F5B.... I think it might have been "sick" but I finished it off.... now in looking at a NEU replacement... where do I sell my kidney again?
by the way nice Colin!
That's a nice jet, Colin.
Looks like it'll be easy to hand launch.
agreed that is a good looking jet and there is no help for us.... spent the day working on my Shoestring
Thanks guys! Shame about your motor Ed. You know a good alternative to the Neus are the Megas ... cost quite a bit less but can hold their own against any motor out there IMHO. They are notoriously UNDERrated in terms of their limits.
A good example is the workhorse of their line ... the diminutive little 400 sized 16/15/3 is rated for 30amps and guys routimely push them past 80 and even up to 100A and they don't break a sweat! This kind of durability and performance is common across the entire line of Megas ... their line is just an option to consider is all I'm sayin'!
Greg, that is one sweet ship right there ... looks fast just stitting there! Man! 2013's gonna be good! :)
Colin
Yes Colin the Megas were somthing ive looked at but fell short in the required gearbox availability. They DO have a solid reputation but I wanted a specific level of performance. To get the power handling/weight you need a high kv motor and a big gear reduction. they make lots of motors that would fit the bill but the gear is just not there and by the time you get a quality gearbox for these levels the price is right up there with the other high end motors(Mega IS after all still a high end motor)
There are lots of NEU's floating around out there in the used market and ive located a couple... might even get to keep that kidney!
Keep an eye on RCG for Neu or Hacker motors.
They come up for sale all the time, usually for 1/2 price. Just have to be patient, but at this point you have all winter.
There are also good deals on ebay.
Pat MacKenzie
Yep! Already on it. But a good tip for the others too
I have seaked professional help... now I only build Simons planes.. get my kicks and call it quits... lol!
Well sadly the guy who sold me the jet reneged on the deal (who does that?) a full week after receiving payment. Contemplating whether to leave negative feedback or not. (I hate doing that)
Colin
I've heard of buyers remorse but this is a new one for me .... sorry was looking forward to seeing what she would do
Well, he claimed that he cracked the canopy while packing it and so decided he could never sell it in that condition. The reason I think that he just made that up is because any normal person (IMO) would say ... listen I cracked the canopy while packing it ... what do you want to do ... do you still want it etc etc.
I think he changed his mind but knew he just couldn't come out and say that AFTER accepting my money so had to come up with some excuse. Oh well you win some, you lose some... its just the feedback dilemma thing now.
Colin
Is there the option of leaving "neutral" feedback and a comment? Like on ebay?
Wow now you need counseling fir a broken heart. This hobby is HELL!
ED I was having a really rough day today (RC Unrelated) and you just made me LAUGH OUT LOUD! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Colin
Simon that's a great idea cause there is such an option. thanks!
Colin
With a post in the wanted section on RCG and a few emails ive purchased a NEU1509-1.5d-6.7 AND i got to keep my kidney!! wont be here in time for the skills challange but I have some other weapons selected...
I have no clue what to fly for the challange... lol!
Great job finding that exact motor for a good price!

Well good thing I didn't leave some negative feedback ... turns out that he DID crack the canopy (http://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=146197). BUT ... he was able to pull two more ones that looked pretty darn good and then he offered it to me again! So ... I paid again ... let's see if I actually get it this time! lol!
Colin
Got it! She's sweeeeet! :)
Colin
It does look like it will be a good performer. What size fan is it for?
Im still looking in my mailbox every time I walk by it!
Waited by the mail box all week.... Nothing. No motor no prop and spinner. guess its better none than part of the required stuff to fly the Enigma. Lots of other stuff to fly anyway.
Two packages from two locations in opposite directions and they arrived yesterday! the unboxing, drooling, installing, then the test run results. One word WOW! NEU1509 motor and gearbox, RFM Carbon Prop/spinner and some soldering to the Castle 125 programed to switch mode CHECK! Is it the weekend yet?
Nice! You'll want to dremel a flat spot for the grub screw on the shaft. I had a problem with that last year that cause me to break the tail (prop spun off as I launched straight up). I see you got the twisted spinner. Awesome. Are you going to use that Neu battery or do you have another?
A little tweak that's cool is to set 2 timers on the 9c. One counts up when you trigger the throttle switch, the other counts down as usual just so you can keep track of how long you've been up. It's cool to land after 10 minutes and see that you only ran 30 seconds of throttle total.
flat spot on motor shaft check. twisted spinner double check. NEU battery yep im going to give it a shot. Timer mine counts down from 30second motor run time and the other up to time flight.
think if I put glow sticks on it I could fly it NOW?
Good job Ed! Can't wait to see this setup fly! I haven't even touched my planes since I was last out ... CRAP ... that reminds me I still have some packs that need to be discharged! >:( Later!
Colin
You've seen this set up fly before Colin. I did stumble on the airframe but doing some research I found that Ben's set up is a very popular one. After that I just sat beside the smart kid in class!
And we think WE'RE obsessed! :o :o :o :o ;D

Colin
Is that Greg's house? ;D
His planes are nicer.
I think i need my wife to watch that.
I'm going to bookmark that vid. Next time I run past her with a package from HK and I don't elude capture, I'm queuing this bad boy up.

Colin
Well after all that, I've put her up for sale ... got a good deal for her on RC Canada so I'm passing on that savings to you! Why selling? Well, I've just got too much on my plate right now ... frequent 11 hour work days, got a two year old running around, renos to the house to put it up for sale, and two more planes in queue AFTER the Typhoon which is yet to get done!
So to say that I'm a little short on time is a bit of an understatement! Pity though cause this is one sweeeeet jet. See specs and more pics over on the Trading Post forum.
Colin.
P.S. I'm even goona be selling another sweet jet (that Ed sold me for a steal) but since I upgraded that one I'm gonna be selling it for much mor than he sold me for! (especially since he practically GAVE me the thing!) lol!

Did you buy the powersystem and stuff for it? This would be a great winter project!
The proper spinner arrived and shrunk my bank account just a little bit more. But on an up note its like diamonds to a woman! CARBON FIBER... a guys best friend!
Look FAST
