So I bought a plane from a guy used. its beautiful but ive had some stumbles along the way.. Batteries that were included were not great but whats to be expected.. Motor burnt up on 5th flight of lack luster performance.. need to replace motor(insert more $$ here). Realize that the prop blades from the previous set up wouldnt work was a given but finding that it has a diferent sized shaft requires a different spinner and more $$ inserted. The guy sent me a message asking if i wanted the remaining 12 pieces (6male 6female) high current bullet connectors. as predicted i jumped at them... ATTACHED PICTURE ARRIVED TODAY!!
You're still waaaay ahead of the price I paid for the whole system.
You're totally right to bitch though. I find that no matter what you buy used, by definition you're buying someone else's problems. I have done it many times--and I'll know at some point I'll do it again.
Ben
I know I'm just bitching.

If anyone decides to buy my current sale items, they are new-in-box, and the problem with them is that I don't have time or impetus to build them! ;D
The last plane I bought used was way, way rougher than the photos showed. I felt miffed afterwards, but I should have just said "I don't want it" when I went to collect it.
The plane was in great condition and the deal was good but the pains in the ass it came with have been well.. a pain in the ass!
I have had GREAT luck with other used purchases and this one is still not bad . just frustrating when I want to FLY IT!!
The last plane I bought from Ed was, well............ ;D
lol it was fine. i think you damaged it running around making zooming noises!
ps im famous too now! PLUS TEMAC made the news and IM the poster boy lol!
It wasn't your best "face" was it! Lol
I'm very proud of you, Ed! Thank you for being our Poster Boy!
My wife thinks we should do a calendar! Those firefighters ain't got nothing on this gang! Lmao
What, like Calendar Girls??? I'm in! ;D
Man the one on the lower right is amazing! That's my girl! I wonder if she can cook a mean slovenian kranska clobasa!!
Simon.... Those are possibly the ugliest girls I've ever seen! What month did you want Greg?
That lady at the lower right looks like Glenn LOL. ;D
now now boys lets not point fingers but I think i see my grandmother in that photo!
OK here's one for you...
Drive 1.5 hours to take your EF-1 racing plane, that you've had for 2 years but never got a chance to fly on a real pylon course, to race on a course with other EF-1 pilots. Line up your plane on the runway, dumb thumb on the rudder, and whack plane destroyed, well mostly.
So my EF-1 racing experience lasted 5 seconds. :( Sometimes this hobby makes me crazy.
But watching the other pilots race was pretty exciting. And I will be back. I just need a new fuselage, and some time to heal my wounded pride.
I can add one.....Take the same drive to fly your new shoestring and wack it into one of the pylons on the landing. The damage isn't too bad and she will fly again .... It wasn't a great day for the Hazelton boys.
Greg
Some great material for the thread there guys! I feel your pain! Though rewarding the trials along the way in this hobby do deserve mention. Can't go along letting everyone think it's easy.
Sorry for your tough day but thanks for getting out there and representing TEMAC!
Greg and Mike - did you get on any posters or in any publicity material? For TEMAC?
LOL Simon! that wasnt JUST a poster that was in the Brampton Guardian! 120K copies of that are decorating peoples walls! Did you want just the 5 autograped copies that you requested in that personal message Simon?
I can't believe you said that, Ed. That was a secret. >:(

Oh yes... A poster with us holding our damaged planes with the caption "TEMAC- Fly with the Best of the Best!"
Nice try Ronald,
I'm in the upper right corner... with red hair, jeez..lol
Rant of the day...
What is with this crapo weather this fall? I've been to TEMAC once in the last three weeks and even that day was a bit of a dog.
I'm not ready to put my toys away. Here's hoping for a brief respite from the rain and the 40km/h winds we've been having.
Grrrrrrrr.....
Im begining to twitch from not flying enough. Possibly I will take up a less addictive hobby like smoking to help ease the pain!
Ed

Ok I have something to bitch about. UPS. Years ago I vowed never to buy a plane online if the only way it could be shipped was by UPS. (because of "import fees") Well the otyher day I broke my vow and purchased a plane that only cost about 250 bucks and I allowed for aboout 15% extra for misc "fees" that I knew would be coming my way upon delivery.
In the past these "fees" had ranged from 12% to 15% on average. So in this case, worse case scenario I was looking at about $38 or so in "extras". Well imagine my shock when the guy showed up and told me that I owed $96.22 in "brokerage fees"! $%#@% That's about 10 Hobby King lipos rghts there!!!
Moral of the story ... never again if the product is only shipped by UPS.

YEP! I only use USPS if its coming from the states. Once i sent an esc to Castle for repair and i got charged 30 somthing dollars between customs and there "brokerage" fees! I was pissed. I already owned the esc it was just out for repair.!

You can actually refuse delivery and tell them you plan on clearing customs yourself. They will take your package to one of their delivery centers here. You then do the paperwork yourself with the port authority (several locations in GTA) and it'll cost you $5. Then go to UPS pick up with your paperwork and get your item.

While that might make you feel better, not sure the maths add up.
In Colin's example on $250 taxes would be $37.50 leaving about $60 in brokerage.
UPS website says it should have been $45.60 brokerage plus taxes that would be $52.44. (Not sure why Colin had to pay more than this, more creative UPS math )
Take off another $5 for your paperwork and you then have to decide if your time+gas is worth $50 to $55.
But it would be nice to hurt UPS a bit.
You can see the standard brokerage rates UPS charges here:
http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html (http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html)
Fedex and Purolator can be just as bad, but they are sneaky. They drop off the package then bill you later for the brokerage fees.
Pat MacKenzie
Good to know guys, (Ben and Pat) but you're right Pat ... the hassle and savings (in this particular case) would not be worth my time ... simple solution? Go back to my resolution of NOT dealing with those courier companies again. (Unless its a model/part that I absolutely MUST have and can't get anywhere else! ;) >:( )
Colin
Stupid weather people. Should have planned to go flying today but they said it was going to rain.
I agree, what they tell us is mostly inaccurate >:(

Today's weather brought to you by the team that gave you "Snowmaggedon 1 thru 3" last winter.
Bunch of flippin hacks..
lol :)
Yup same here, last time i ordered from the.states i got dinged $60 on a $150 item (non RC related using UPS). Its just not worth it when ordering from China is so much easier and cheaper.
Rant of the day...
The weather is finally perfect, but it's Monday!!!
In retribution, I threw some recyclables in the trash and I'm not composting my food waste. Mother nature, you've been warned, I can get a lot worse..
That post needs a "like" button!

What can I say? Our web developer is so good he has an answer even when I'm being a smart ass!
These pretzels are making me thirsty!
Oh my Gosh Mike!! My wife and I were doing that skit this morning!! Have you installed cameras in my house and im on some reality tv show??
If so then you can see me giving the finger to the sky with the weather predicted for the weekend!!
This can't go on. I'm building 2 models a week at the moment, because of the weather. By Christmas my house will look like Greg's!
Should I start a new thread to bitch about the weather or can I use this one?
Fire away....
This one is fine by me.
What's wrong with the weather?? It's flippen spendid here!!!
It's frankenstorm watch 2012 ::)
