How well will the Club be represented at the Zone L meeting on Saturday? I have given my proxy to Jack. Anyone else voting, either by proxy or in person?
Thanks Jack, for mentioning the AZM in today's TEMAC Tickler. This is an important meeting.
I've been planning to attend all along, until I realized that it's on the Thanksgiving Weekend. I don't think I can go after all and I fear there may be several people who can't make it. Hmmm... I wonder if it was planned that way...
I gave my proxy to Jack a long time ago. I completely trust his judgment and know that he will represent us well. I just hope there will be some other TEMAC members there to support Jack.
Robert
Funny, I noticed that too... plus the fact it's in Midland! lol!
MAAC Proxy form for AZMs is available here: http://www.maac.ca/docs/2006/proxy_voting_form_for_annual_zone_meeting.pdf (http://www.maac.ca/docs/2006/proxy_voting_form_for_annual_zone_meeting.pdf). If anyone can't get to Midland on Saturday, please sign the proxy and send to Jack Higgins, who will represent our interests very effectively.
done and done
I signed a form at one of the fun Flys. Does that count? Or does it have to be this exact form?
If you signed a form with many names on it that's fine too. There are two form formats.
I'm assuming that you were careful as to who's name was at the top of the form. :P
LOL... I read it twice.
Jack has my proxy. I trust he will vote in the best interests of the club and the zone.
You may all rest assured that I will do what I think is necessary to further the
interests of our wonderful club and all it's members. I have all the proxies and will be
in attendance with other interested club members. I will be meeting with members of
other clubs who will be my experienced advisers.
Please know that I passionately want to return the FUN to our wonderful hobby.
There is a malaise in our Association caused by personal agendas which fail to promote
the needs of the many as opposed to the egos of the few.
Jack.
Well put Jack!
Three of us are going together Saturday. Dr. John, Craig Campbell and myself Jim Spence. We feel it will be an interesting meeting. We have already signed Brad or Jack's proxy (forget which) but I guess we like the excitement of the moment.
A few more of us are thinking of going Sat. :P
Don't forget the Ladies Auxiliary Light Lunch, maybe Watercress sandwiches? My favorite.
Here's hoping the job gets done on Saturday. Remember - the person in question is very resourceful and adept at using his positional power. I hope somebody has a copy of the MAAC bylaws there, because there is no doubt he will attempt to twist the rules to his advantage. Be strong, Jack (and anybody else who's planning to be there)!
Let's hope today is a game changer. Anyone going please keep us posted
This is the information I have received in regard to the meeting. Don't get too excited but it's all I have.
"LOL. Its ugly.
The meeting is currently suspended due to the Proxie count. There are so many Proxies. It is taking hours to validate them all.
And a Quorum cannot be established until all the proxies are validated.
No motions or votes can take place. "
Everyone knew that it wasn't going to be easy. One has to wonder why he just doesn't just step down instead of putting everyone through this nonsense.
480 is the total proxies.
Voting now.
so to get 2/3 majority we need 320 votes?
405 voted to remove the ZD, apparently.
$5 says he won't accept that decision.
Either that or he's suing everyone.
fo show there will be some recount/invalid vote stunt in the near future! oh AND everyone that voted against him will be named in the lawsuit!
but lets all hope this is the end of the regime!
My number may be wrong. I'm now hearing it may have been as high as 460 something.
FWIW, I gave my proxy to someone knowing full well what it was for.
But I don't think it serves anyone's interest to gloat about this outcome.
The whole thing makes me kind of sad, that it ever came to this about toy planes.

It makes me sad too. First the EMFSO, then the entire MAAC zone. Both organizations are supposed to facilitate having fun. Now hopefully we can get back to that.

i sent the following email to the MAAC president tonight...
Dear Ron Dodd
As you will likely have heard by now, the Zone L membership voted by a sizable majority to remove the current ZD from his position at today's annual meeting. I sincerely hope you will encourage the individual to abide by the membership's wishes, and discourage him from challenging the results of tne vote in any way.
Thank you,
Gordon Braun-Woodbury

I agree 100% Pat. It's a great shame.
I think the lesson here is that next time we need to pay more attention when a new zd is up for election.
The membership spoke clearly that they were not happy with the current state of affairs. Am I sad that the zd had to be ousted like that? No, he was the architect of his own demise.
I hope that the new zd will represent all of us well and help steer the conversation in the zone towards the enjoyment of the hobby rather than useless political bickering.
The club was well represented at the Meeting. I brought 111 proxies and I thank all who gave them to me. Believe me when I say that there has been no pleasure in this. It has been a lot of hard work on the part of many people. We pleaded with MAAC to deal with the situation. Their response was that the members of the zone had to take care of it them selves. We did, my sorrow is that we were forced to this extreme. It never needed to happen but it played out to it's bitter conclusion. I can tell you that the only emotion I saw after almost 8 hours was relief that it was finally over. There were no winners here everyone lost and it will take some time to recover but hopefully we are on our way. One silver lining is that it brought a lot of clubs together in the face of a common cause and there were friendships made that will last a long way into the future.
Jack.
