Title: Fingers crossed weekend weather
Post by: Ededge2002 on October 30, 2012, 07:41:13 AM
Are you sitting down?

Weather predictions say that sat/sun show signs of SUN!  Remember that big ball of fire it the sky?

I'm planing to try to remember how to fly. Looks like it will be cold and the driveway is off limits so these things should be considered when heading out. Anyone else in?

Two flights!    avoided the rain!!

some numbers from one of the flights on the Enigma.

45seconds motor run total
6:40 in Thermal mode
14:25 total flight time
1750mA to recharge pack

When you look at the power used the plane is quite mizerly lol...  But when its on its 140amps average!

It was just gliding. I doubt there were "thermals". It was rainy windy and overcast lol

Rain, wind and overcast does not mean no thermals.  :)

They can be harder to find, but they are there. They can actually be very violent in these sort of conditions.

Thanks for the post Pat.
I will admit I'm a rank amiture glider/thermal flyer. I have a lot to learn both in the air and of the science. I give credit to the great glide ratio of this plane. It stays in the air so easily it makes me want to improve.

Almost the weekend!!  Cold but not raining is all I have to hope for. Who's in what time and what day?

I am suggesting that any fliers contemplating going to Rogo-Field this weekend reconsider.  If the ground is wet, and we have lots of foot-traffic on it, in the pits, and even on the field, we could wreck the surface for next year.  Big boots and wellies can churn up the ground pretty easy.

Please be considerate.

And no parking on the field.

Thanks,
Simon

If anyone is desperate to fly I'm going to my area51 flying site this afternoon and possibly tomorrow. I have permission to fly there. It's a "small" sod farm field about the same area as the TEMAC field located near the end of the 404. No fuel, no tables, bit of a walk but a field just the same.

Personal message me for details!

COLD!!!~  Tried flyign with my new gloves...  I hate them.  Wind in my eyes making them water and frozen drops of running down my face.  Oh yea heaven.  flew anyway and got some fresh air.  The sun came out just as I was packing up lol

Forget fingers crossed it should have been fingers FROZEN!  Back out there again today freezing and windy. Greg H joined me as he must have a screw loose as well. On my last flight I was actualy having my fingers quite numb with the cold. Still fun but July was way better!
