Nitroplanes are now taking orders for the Dara, here is the link www.nitroplanes.com/28a05-dara-kit.html (http://www.nitroplanes.com/28a05-dara-kit.html).
The cost is $129.00 plus $30.00 shipping by Canada Express.
I think this is an introductory cost to get the kits on the market and at a later date the price will increase.

No photos on the link Ken. Do you have any images or links to images?
Good to see another EF-1 arf on the market.
I did a little looking earlier and stumbled onto these photos...

looks nice. I realy like it. but not enough to spend the winter out back sleeping in the dog house!... still looking though!
The Green one looks great..
It just so happens that I need a new EF-1 airframe (ok my wife would agrue that "need" isn't really true)... I was thinking the Sundowner 36, but this one has my attention.
How does Nitro Planes ship their kits? Please tell me it's not UPS.
I am tempeted by this - I've had my eye on the RC Groups thread for a few months.
I have bought planes from Nitroplanes before, but can't remember how they ship.........
Regardless of shipping method, anything like this coming from the States is subject to duty/customs and brokerage fees. You can usually get away with smaller parcels, or items under $50 in value and marked as "gift".
Its not duty, its 13% taxes, also UPS charges tax on the brokage fee.
If a parcel is shipped by UPS you will be charged taxes and brokage fee and I believe FED X charges as well.
I am going to contact NitroPlanes on Mon., to find out how they will ship to Canada.

The Dara would be an excellent choice as it is a little smaller and liter than the Sundowner. It was design by Jerry Small and Dan Kane for Nitro Planes. Also these guys designed the Shoestring for Eflite and two kits the Polecat and Outrageous. They all are great flying planes and very easy to take off.

A little flashback for ya.. Here's an old post from Colin..
Ok I have something to bitch about. UPS. Years ago I vowed never to buy a plane online if the only way it could be shipped was by UPS. (because of "import fees") Well the otyher day I broke my vow and purchased a plane that only cost about 250 bucks and I allowed for aboout 15% extra for misc "fees" that I knew would be coming my way upon delivery.
In the past these "fees" had ranged from 12% to 15% on average. So in this case, worse case scenario I was looking at about $38 or so in "extras". Well imagine my shock when the guy showed up and told me that I owed $96.22 in "brokerage fees"! $%#@% That's about 10 Hobby King lipos rghts there!!!
Moral of the story ... never again if the product is only shipped by UPS.That's why I don't want UPS involved. It will take a $160 purchase ($129 for the plane and $30 in shipping >:() and make it easily a $200+ plane before power system and electronics. I can get a Shoestring or a Sundowner for $140 + tax at a LHS.

After flying the Pogo I can appreciate the whole "easy to take off" comment.
If I can find a way to get may hands on a Dara without getting hosed by shipping, I'm all over it.

You're preaching to the choir on this one. I have a self imposed moratorium, restricting me from ordering any parts or large items online from the US.
I got charged $60 in brokerage fees, taxes and duty on a $150 item. Totally killed the deal.
PS $140 for a shoestring/sundowner locally is a steal.

good news they have a picture up.... bad news the $129 introductory price is gone (now $135)
I see their strategy... If you want to see more you're going to have to pay. I believe it's worked well in other industries...
The Shoestring and the Sundowner for 150.00 is a great deal, with taxes you are looking at 170.00.
Maybe someone can get Pinnacle or some other LHS to check if they can bring the Dara in. It will still cost 170. - 180.00 with taxes.

Mike Nitroplanes ship by the USPS to Canada, I have one on the way. The reports on RCgroups, the quaility is great but there is some minor things to changes.
Ken
Thanks for the update Ken.
I'll take a look at the RC Groups thread and see what sort of mods people are doing. Hopefully it's just small stuff.

The Proud Bird was designed over 2 years ago by Jim Allen, who is a big pylon racer in the US. He has been racing this plane for 2 years now and doing very well.
Great Planes has had this in the works for some time.
It is going to be all white, so you can put your own trim colours on.
The next F1 ARF to hit the market will be the Invictus, Hobby King is working on the proto's for the designer to check out. It might be available early summer.
This one could be expensive with the shipping from China but it might be available from HK US.
There maybe more ARF's that I don't know about.
These all seem ok, but a bit too draggy. Is there anything out there in this price range that can compete in EF1, but not require 800+ watts?

Draggy isn't a word that I would use to describe the performance of these planes. Yes, there are faster models out there, however I'd say that the combination of the speed of these planes and their ability to track around the pylon course is pretty much spot on for the level of competition the rule makers wanted to have. Plus these are 3.5lb planes. EF1 is meant to be accessible to the average pilot, therefore I think the idea was to make the planes fast (about 110 mph), but not so fast that they'd be hard to track and control, rememeber you're not the only pilot on the course. They use a spec'd power system so you don't have to mess around with motor and battery combinations so no matter which model you choose, you're going to need a 800 W power system.
Here are the current rules for the class. http://www.nmpra.org/rules/EF1NewRules_5_%5B1%5D.pdf (http://www.nmpra.org/rules/EF1NewRules_5_%5B1%5D.pdf)
Trust me Jeff, I think that this type of competitive flying would suit your flying style perfectly. You should make a point of going out to Ken's pylon course next season. Once you see these planes go around the course. You'll be hooked.
Please stop posting these planes unless:
-You have a place I can live for the winter
-there is room for planes
-you want to see me freeze in the dog house
Who am I kidding here? Sometime this spring expect a EF1 to be in my hanger. There just too sexy to resist!

Don't wait till spring, Order one now, Have it shipped to one of your good friends, Visit him every week, Thats what friends are for. Hiding things from the wife.
None of my friends nor myself could be trusted if left alone with one of these beauties!
Now if they would store my wife till spring for me we might be onto something...
Ive done a little digging about the Proud Bird EF1 .
This is information I aquired from a friend that works at Hobbico.
The planes are on the water on there way here as we speak.
I understand they will come all white with some trim graphics to make personalized versions easy.
Great Planes should be releasing a video soon as it was completed last week.
Quote
" I have had the occasion to fly the Proud Bird a couple of times and I have to say it ground-handles and flies well. It tracks well on takeoff (even on pavement) and won't nose-over when it lands."
"I was also out at our flyng field a couple of times last week when we were filming the video for promotions. Our Ace pilots Frank Noll and Dan Landis were putting a couple of Proud Birds throgh their paces and they were fast. Of course, we fly them with the O.S. motor setup on 4S for EF-1."
Now im going to go stick my head in the sand!
Ed - you're not helping! >:(

I know Simon!! Im not helping MYSELF!!!
How about you & I go halves on one, Ed? You build it, I'll store it, and then we can both fly it!!!! ;D
who gets to fly it the last time?
I have a spare kit of the Wagner Solution F1 if anyone wants to build.
I have glued the wing sheeting on the cores which is the most work of the kit.
Fuselage is very easy to build all tab and lock.
Rudder and stab are all sheet balsa.
There is about 4 weeks of evening work to build it.
Give me shout if anyone is interested.
Ken
I have received my Dara kit today, deliver right to my door and NO 13% taxes or Canada Customs handling fee.
Had a good check on the quality of this kit, it is just a super job of building, covering and painting, I couldn't be happier. Nitroplanes did a great job on this one and wasn't rushed. The kit was well packed and doubled boxed. A good deal for 160.00.
Horizon/Elite should take note.
Will update on the build, could have it done tomorrow but not rushing.
Ken
Oh no! More positive word on the Dara, making it even more difficult to resist! :'(
Here is some pictures of my personalized Miss Dara, had to have a different colour, as racing two green airplanes at one time could be a disaster.
wow that looks great!
do not look at those pictures! looking directly at the sun will have less long term affects
Awesome, ed /Simon, time to get an ef1 racer for next spring.
Thanks Mike, yes we need more new guys to get into the F1 event. Just get an F1 plane, come out and join us in 013. There is three good ARF's on the market now and maybe more to come.
