Title: Runway covering
Post by: sihinch on December 04, 2012, 06:23:37 PM
All,

Just wanted to acknowledge that we (the Board) heard your comments about a runway covering at the November pilots meeting, and have agreed that a study group is an appropriate action.

Yesterday, Jack & I met with Brad Egan, the new Zone Director, and he mentioned that in the spring the Keswick club are going to put 2 rolls of covering down.  They have found a local supplier.  I think it might be a good idea to speak to them, to understand what they've looked at, what they've learned and what their costs projections are.  Perhaps we can even wait, and see how they get on?

We are not committing to adding a runway covering or alternative. Just that we will consider all options.

Regards,
Simon

Hi everyone - just wanted to check-in on this topic (thanks for the reminder from someone!)

We agreed that we would have a Committee look at this, made up of Greg C, Bill Q, Ken R and myself.

Now we're in the new year and flying season is approaching, we will (try to) get together and start formulating next steps/investigation.

I drove by TEMAC today. It would appear that the runway is already covered... ::)

Looks can be deceiving. There's a nasty wind blowing, I just spent 25mins outside...it's freezing!

It looks like Saturday afternoon is going to be an awesome winter flying day! Winds N at 10 kmh,  -5C (wind chill -10C).

Has anyone been by the field today?  It may be worth the hike in from the highway to get a few flights in.  I'm guessing the rain and warm weather earlier this week has thinned out the snow cover and hardened it up.  Does anyone know if it's legal to park at the side of the highway?

There was NO shoulder to park last weekend when I drove past. Only place to park would be in the live lane.....  wonder what its like now?

Pretty sure the highway shoulder is for emergency use only.
