What a riot.

Thirty years ago it would have taken NASA $20 million to make this video and pull off this stunt.  This guy probably did it for $200, a roll of duct tape, a quick release, an I-PHONE and a toy balloon.

That was incredible.

I can't help but wonder though (boring old conservative fart that I am) given all the issues we had with full-size aircraft, how safe this was?

33,000m and an airliner could have hit it.

There are no airliners at 33,000 metres, they can only get to ~13,000m

The odds of collision are extremely low. Look at how hard it is to hit an aircraft with something when they are trying to.
Go outside right now. In  Toronto we are only a few miles from the busiest airport in Canada. If you are lucky you might see an airliner.
The air could be thick with models and the odds of collision would still be tiny.

But in the society we are in now for some reason we are demanding total safety for things we are not in control of, while at the same time accepting far greater dangers we can control as acceptable.

The far greater risk in the video would be if he had managed to land on the road and possibly caused a car accident. Perhaps he did land in the trees on purpose?

Pat don't worry about Simon. He's been known to yell at kids playing near his lawn, so this isn't a big surprise at all...

I say we need to send a Nooner to space, to promote the racing series.

Boys, Boys!  Behave please.

.... and in this corner, sporting the red Nooner....

I suspect there is going to be as much trash talking as there will be Nooner Racing.

Frank

ps: someone remind Simon there are no right turns in pylon racing and victory rolls are not done by last place guys. 8)

There's no points for second place, Frank!

Ah, wait a minute. At TEMAC, there are!
