Always take what you read with a huge grain of salt.
From the opening paragraph:

There were electric powered man carrying aircraft flying in the 70's, so they are only off by about 40 years.

That hardly looks very much like an amateur effort.
It's beautiful!
It's using modern technology.

Practical full size electric is getting really close.

I like it.

Clever idea to use the single motor to belt drive the main gear and save batts for flying.

It does look fragile in the video but as we know it's better to build it light enough to fly rather than so heavy it will crash.
