Many of us are peeling glue from our fingers and cleaning balsa dust from everywhere, because we're building the old-fashion way, but there's no denying that ARFs are leading the hobby and industry.
We're going to see new scratch-built and kit-built models at the field this coming summer, but we`re also going to see some impressive Almost-Ready-to-Fly models.
Here's what I've committed to (so far ;D ).
1. Flyzone Beaver with floats.
2. (Taft Hobby) Viper Jet (6S)
3. (Discontinued) E-Flite Beechcraft Staggerwing
4. Windrider Airbus A380 (4 ducted fans; this things has 22 wheels! :o )
I have too many ARFs to build, but the 4 I'd really to build (in between the scratch builds) are:
1) Freewing Eurofighter Typhoon (changed to RAF colours of course!)
2) Seagull Grob Tutor
3) RC Lander Hawker Hunter, to be done in my Grandfathers squadron colours
4) Nitroplanes Miss Dara EF1 plane
Well, I have the following on the bench
1) Balsa USA Eindecker 40 (Same as Gordon), wings are framed, just need to get the wing tips sanded. Fuse is next.
2) H9 P47D-1
3) H9 BF109 (Like Glenns)
These are the main ones and I think the building might slow down for the next 16 year. lol!

Your Eindecker is a balsa kit.
This thread is reserved for shiny, pre-built ARFs; no snobby complicated wood and glue - bits and pieces 'show-off' projects allowed! ;D
2 out of three isn't bad ;D
ARFs eh..i'll build any that Santa drops off ;)
"shiny, pre-built ARFs; no snobby complicated wood and glue - bits and pieces 'show-off' projects allowed! "(Michael)
I have a couple of these (ARFs)...but since I'm so slow finishing anything, I'm only going to commit to two.
First is a kind of command performance with a story attached.
Christmas Eve, I proposed and my now fiance Kathleen, accepted. Christmas morning, she gave me an e-Flite Super Cub with all the fixins(the one the dog tried to eat)...think I better get this one in the air this year.
Second is a Maxford Airco DH2...sound familiar? The first one won Crash of the Year in 2014 and will never make a third flight but I'm not willing to give up yet. Being thick-headed and loving the weirdness of the DH2, I have another one sitting in the basement with some thoughts about how to make it fly for more than two flights!
Now, if I can ever finish re-designing my Skywriter fuse...
Congratulations Bill! On your new ARFs and Fiancé!
Congrats, Bill!
Congrats Bill!
Congratulations Bill and welcome Kathleen.
Moving forward is such a courageous action.
I wish you both every success in your new venture together.
Jack.
p.s. ARF's? Who needs ARF's when you can build?.....LOL
J.
Bill,
re: your comment "Being thick-headed and loving the weirdness of the DH2"
Bill, please don't confuse "thick-headedness" with determination. Thick-headedness is just goal-oriented determination and persistence in a world where people don't understand a man and his model airplanes.
Michael re: my Arf's- I just got back two airplanes today..... that I built about 10 years ago and gave to Fred Messacar (Bramalea, MAAC) about 5 years ago so today they are ARF's to me. A Spirit 100" wing with a glider fuselage (per kit) and a power glider fuselage made with a fibreglass fuselage that Jack Linghorne gave me about 10 years ago (2 complete fuselages made to fit one wing). Fred has not had the chance to get them ready so I have volunteered to do it for him and go gliding one day this year at SOGGI (Southern Ontario Glider Group) and visit TEMAC to fly the power glider version. Stan Shaw (SOGGI, MAAC) keeps inviting us. Will bring the planes to the next meeting. The wing has ailerons, flaps and spoilers.
... and Bill, congrats on your next adventure in life.
Frank
First, Congrats Bill. Good to hear.
I have a few things on the go
1. Finish the Great Planes STA (almost there, control horns/rods and install radio all that is left)
2. Windrider Hurricane, (probably as a night fighter in flat black)
3. Seagull 60 inch Skywalker 2
4. Just finished Aquila sailplane conversion
5. Durafly Vampire that I put together this afternoon.
6. Purchase more CA to put my Pitts back together after the Dome Fly.
I will be off for a couple of weeks after hernia surgery and hope to get some work done.
Congratulations Bill!
I am currently working on Blue nose H9 Mustang. Next up will be a H9 P40b.
Michael, is your A380 full package or did you supply your own electronics and fans?
Glenn

It has servos, speed controls and motor/fan units.
I bought it used, but never flown.

That's wonderful news Bill. Kathleen clearly has superb taste on both counts. Wishing you a sweet life and much happiness together.
Andy
Hey, congratulations Bill! And she gives planes for Christmas - sell your clothes, you've gone to heaven!
I've got 6 boxes piled up now beside the freezer, but the only ARF is the 100" Big E-Fair I just got as a belated Christmas gift. Once I finish the Loening indoor scratch build, I'll get to it. Unfortunately, there's a complete family room reno to be accomplished first.
Eric
Thanks for all the congratulations guys but I don't think I'm ready to sell my clothes just yet. Kathleen lets me wear them sometimes!
Here is my list:
1 - Van's RV-4 sport scale - already assembled with motor, esc, etc... just waiting for good weather
(http://cdn.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/catalog/55145.jpg)
2 - Skyline Sukhoi Su-26 70 - Started assembling, having problems to centralize the horizontal stabilizer...
Check the hinges, control rods and horns very carefully on the Sukhoi. Saw a gas version lose an aileron at Bramalea a couple of years ago. It made a lot of noise tumbling along the runway once the air flow was too low to keep the aileron up.
jack.
The Beaver, A380 and the Staggerwing are done. (No retracts.) I'll start the Viper this weekend.
(I still have 2 balsa builds to do :o )
The Staggerwing is bit smaller than the Parkzone/E-Flite warbirds, but is really cute and unusual as compared to most planes at the field.
Congratulations. Well done Bill!
I have a used Hawker hunter and an F-22 like Simon's and a pre-used Heinkle 163 and my arf Sea vixen has a new fuselage and is ready to go. My new Durafly Vampire should arrive any day.
I know that it's not am arf but I'm making making some good progress on my Dornier flying boat.
I will probably have that 98" span powered glider ready to go too ( It's an ARF).
Oh yeah, I have the big HK silver/orange P-40 from HK on six cells.
Wow, I didn't realize there were so many!
Ken
Viper Jet done. It's about a 5 foot (or so?) wingspan and is powered by a 12-blade (or 11?) fan on 6 lipo cells.
It has lights, flaps and retractable landing gear with sequenced doors.
Assembly took about ½ hour; throws, trim, flaps adjustments and triple-rates took about 1½ hours.
Now all my ARFs are done, and I'll start construction on a 1/5 scale balsa Piper Super Cub kit, and then a large scratch built personal design that I hope to fly before the end of the summer.
Hey Michael,
Which Super Cub? Is it the Adrian Page?
Yes sir! It's back in production. ;D
FWIW, my 80" Page Super Cub kit got here a couple of weeks ago.
I can almost guarantee that Michael will get his built long before I do ;)
Pat MacKenzie
Hang on to it Pat, we may do it as a build class and you can be a super sub instructor EH!
Jack.
You both will love the plane!
Hi Guys,
Where can you get the "Adrian" super cub and about how much izit?
Thanks,
Ken
http://www.adrianpage.com/
I bought mine as part of the "kickstarter" project he did to fund his purchase of a laser cutter, so not sure what the regular price would be.
Still waiting on the big Gee Bee R2 kit, he did send me the instruction manual as a teaser.
Pat MacKenzie
Not quite an ARF, but I have made a set of foam floats from Seaplane Supply, which I'm going to install on the LT40 trainer I bought from Cadez last year. I plan to join you guys at Frenchman's Bay...
I know Robert Pike will be very happy about that Gordon! Good for you. :D
Yes he WILL be ;D
It'll be great to have you out again, Gordon!
I have quite a few new planes. I am working on a 1234 HK Spitfire. I just finished a Windrider Hurricane. I used Cally graphics to finish it as a Canadian Ace called Willy McKnight's plane form 242 Squadron. I finished a Seagul Spacewalker 63 inches (looking forward to that one). I finished a HK Vampire, and next up is a Hangar 9 Denight Special. That last one is a real beauty and the kit and instructions are outstanding. Supposed to be 7 degrees next week, maybe get out on Tuesday if it is.
Hi Rob,
My HK Vampire is ready to go too!
Bandits at 2 o'clock!
Ken
Hey Bill Q.
Whats this about a DH-2?
You had one? you have another?
Don't fly it until I'm there.

Ken,
As much as I value your friendship and advice, I'm probably gonna re-maiden this one in private...if it buys the farm again, I can quietly sweep it and the story into the same garbage can the first one went into...may be a ways off...still stuck on the Skywriter...will put a pilot in....he'll help with the cg and if things go bad again, I've got someone to blame other than me!
Here's an ARF that snuck in the build queue! Pilot provided by Eve & Charlie Hinchcliffe (niece and nephew!)
Past winter, I bought 2 ARF (plus a few pre-own planes). Since my red eagle glider is almost done, I finally able to clear my table and start building them.
Tonight, I completed my Cessna C-188. I turned my C-188 to a Disney cartoon character, Dusty. This is from Dynam. 59inch wingspan, 5 Channels (T/E/A/R/F), steerable tail wheel, runs on 4S 2200. I planned to add the nav lights to make it more visible. To be maiden this summer. (not planning to be FPV... yet).
I also bought the Durafly Vampire (yep, another vampire). It's still sitting in the box waiting to be build. :)
That looks great!
Oscar, make sure you get a really good glue joint between the wing and fuselage. I used hot glue, but one day when I looked at it sitting in the rack, the glue joint had failed (or more probably I did not get a good joint to start with).I re-did the joints with epoxy. I also re-enforced the tail booms by inserting carbon fibre rods down them, using a piece of piano wire as a drill. On the forums, the tail booms seem to be a weak spot. Ken has one of these too. We will have to get them all up at the same time!
Thanks Rob for the advice. I will add the cf when building this plane. :D
Well I finally finished the hangar 9 bf109f-2. That took for ever.

4) Nitroplanes Miss Dara EF1 plane
So I managed to get 2 of the ARFs listed here, ready for 2015. And we have to admit, with the nights getting darker in the early evening, that winter is approaching. Sorry, I know!
But, it does mean it's time to start planning 2016......
What have you got lined up? I've just unboxed my first project (after finishing a few late 2015 projects) and got a couple lined up. It's exciting times, still!
