This is amazing.  No tuned pipes, no 80% nitro fuel.
I googled "Reno Air Races speeds" and here is an excerpt:

"Heat races started Thursday and so far Hinton* is looking good to defend his title. He qualified on the top of the time sheets again this year with a speed of 484 mph. But rival P-51 "Voodoo" is close behind at 479 mph."
*That is Strega with over 3,000 horsepower.

Two thoughts:
- are his dual rates set at about 1%.
- no aileron flutter...yet.  The first hint of flutter would be a WTF moment.  ;D
Some of my planes can't even come out of a dive at 100 mph without flutter.

Watching the video reminded me about my control line days.

That's amazing and terrifying at the same time.

I was reading an article recently about Dynamic Soaring in the Peak District, where I grew up.  I learnt to fly slope soaring, and never knew about Dynamic Soaring.  I t would be fun to try it some day.
