Title: Wing repair
Post by: Michael on February 08, 2016, 09:11:03 AM
I volunteered to repair Don's glider wing, which 'folded' after a dive.

The right wing was fine, but the left ripped apart just after the 'wire and tube' brace ended.

Note some of my 'techniques':

Red: trailing edge heavily glued on with triangular braces.

Purple: hardwood spars on both sides of broken hardwood spars, top and bottom.

Green: New leading edge (to be sanded later) with large inner block brace.

Blue: 3/8" carbon fiber tube glued inside the ribs (holes) and alongside the lower hardwood spar(s) and the area where the wing broke.

Yellow: original brass tube for the wire-wing-joiner is inside where it is supposed to be.

The ribs are new and cut to fit. The top of the wing will be sheeted and the covered in whatever colour I have handy.

Michael,

What colour covering would you like?  I will bring on Wednesday.

Orange and black.

Thanks Frank.

Do you need any other colours?
