Hey! Anyone want to do a bit of flying on Sunday. So far they are forecasting a perfect day.
Polish those skis or get them floats a... (Let's fill those flight stations and encourage spring to come along.)
I'll keep on updating the forecast as it gets closer.
Forgot the forecast for those in the morning crew.
This whole week has been high winds... so no flying. Sunday is the first day since last Sunday that looks ok... and even so, the temp is crappy. However, I'll be joining you. Maybe not at the same field, but at least at the same time. Is that a pic of flying today?
Bruce,
I sure like David's forecast a lot better. Somehow I suspect your forecast will be closer to reality.
Can't go Sunday because of a family commitment...... so start doing the happy dance. ;D ;D

No one flying today. Just thoughts of it.
Sunday is looking good for you too. Take lots of pictures and so will we, I hope.
Weather permitting.
:P :P :P :P :P
Sunday Morning is looking best at this time.
Weather and snow conditions are perfect for flying tomorrow morning. I am going to be there at 10.
Hope to see you out there.
Looking good so far...
Conditions looking good for Florida.
Clear sky, warm temperature, light wind, and alligators.
It was a beautiful morning at TEMAC. No wind. No need for a wind sock. Lots of fresh snow.
Jim Spence and Andy Hoffer joined me for some great flying. We drove in. All of us have AWD. I wouldn't have tried it without it.
I thought I got a great tan while in Mexico. You should see it now.
I took lots of photos using my flip phone. (Forgot my camera.) Can you believe it, the Hoff didn't bring his.
Once I figure how I can retrieve them from my phone using Blue tooth and my Mac, I will post them.
If you were thinking about coming out, you don't know what you missed. It was perfect...
It was an absolutely magnificent morning for winter flying - a balmy -4C, clear blue skies, and just the faintest breeze from the south.
We all left ski tracks to guide anyone else who comes out today. The snow is light and fluffy - it just doesn't get any better for floats or skis.
Thanks for the inspiration Bruce!!
Andy

@Frank v B Tell Mita that she couldn't pay me enough. Further, once there is an exchange of funds for services, then a liability and responsibility comes along with it. (I pity all of Andy's old babysitters. I am sure they were never paid enough. They may have never recovered as well.)
Andy and I did have fun though, didn't we Andy?
I was not able to transfer the photos from my flip phone by Bluetooth or any other means, except for the old 'take a picture of a picture technique'.
It usually works. (I will never complain about the quality of others photos posted on the forum*)
I had a photo of Jim too, but he was too far away.
Enjoy
*for today anyways.
Bruce,
Maybe you should get a new camera. The one you use (below) may be out of date.
From a fellow flip phone and 72 meg radio guy. ;D ;D

No, I don't need a new camera. I just need to remember to bring it with me.
PS The only reason why I still have my 72 meg radio is because I have been to lazy to throw it out. Maybe one day I'll get around to it.
As promised I will not criticize your photo today. Please wait until tomorrow.
Today was the 1st nice flying day in a week. And the week to come isn't looking too good. Today was beautiful... warm, sun, very little wind. I was at the field from about 10:30 to 4:30.
Here's the best from today. 2 guys have been farting around with this foamboard, gas plane for months. Most of the time it kinda flies. Today was excellent.

More planes from today...
David,
re: plane-eating tree.
Wrong CG. Very tail heavy.
Move the CG forward about 1" and it will fly fine... provided the trees duck and the engine stops sounding like it cannot get out of idle. :)
Frank
I'm not sure there will be another flight. Here's a couple more videos...

David,
The tree did the plane a favour.
Frank
There was so little damage when it was up in the tree. It just floated in and nestled on 2 branches. The whole process was a hoot. No ailerons on the plane. Every time it flew and landed there was a cheer. RIPs Humpty Dumpty Plane.
@davidk , I am glad to see there are good weather fliers down there as well with a sense of humor and pride of accomplishment.
I bet you will see that plane back in the air and possibly in that tree again before you migrate back.
While I know you enjoy flying off of our hard water conditions, please bring some of the warmer sun back with you so that you won't have to do it again this year when you get home. I hope that's the case anyways. But if that's not the case, I won't taking off my skis too soon either. One never can tell these days. :o
This is the guy who built, and re-built, this plane. The guy who flew it is one of 2 go-to guys for maidening everything... and he took no end of ribbing for "landing" this one in a tree.
I'll bring back some warmer, calmer weather... but most of this week the winds are about 20kph.
David,
When I first saw the video it looked familiar. It appears to be incarnation of the Mud Duck, a trainer model for large engines that came out in the late '90's. Took this photo of an ad in the May 1998 Radio Control Modeler Magazine. It looked ugly back then.... and has not improved with age. ;) ;)
Frank
Mind like a steel trap. I'd heard that name in passing yesterday but wasn't paying much attention. They did say it was the Mud Duck... no question.
Nicely done. How, on earth, did you find the ad?
$265 for the kit... that seems a bit steep... did that include the engine as well?
Flying Thursday March 5th before meeting for lunch with a number of the Morning Crew. Once again the weather conditions were perfect.
Craig, Don, Frank and I all had a number of most pleasant flights. No need for gloves. Only sun screen.
Frank even claims he caught a thermal.
Well, it's official that the world is upside down. You got in more flying this week than I did.
What happened to the winter wind sock?
The wind sock lost the fight.... :o :'(
It got a little breezy here, and the with snow ( you remember snow) :-[ and ice
Lost the fight ???
So now it seat of your pants :o and wind in your face 8) ... flying ;D
Until the guy who looks after the field :-X flys north to restore order again :P
We miss you... :-*
Very poetic. :)

It's winter. No one flies when there is wind, so a windsock is unnecessary. If one feels it is necessary to determine the direction of the wind, pick up some snow (like grass) and throw it into the air and watch the direction it moves in. (Advice for
@Frank v B - This works with light fluffy snow only. Heavy snow only goes in the direction it is thrown.) ::)
However, having said that, like other TEMAC members I am looking forward to seeing the new spring/summer windsock and enjoying its accompanying warmer temperatures. :P
NOTE: I haven't put the skis away yet...
QuoteHeavy snow only goes in the direction it is thrown.
Until that evil menace and foe to all my planes... gravity... gets hold of it.
