Title: Speed Hump
Post by: Andy Hoffer on April 06, 2021, 07:50:42 PM
Hi guys,

I saw a curious sign today at Humber College, adjacent to Colonel Samuel Smith Park in Etobicoke.

I have used Speed 400's many times in the past, so I can certainly understand the "Speed" part, but I'm just a little confused as to what a "Speed Hump" might be.  Maybe it's analogous to the current state of our Geotex runway, but perhaps there are other applications that you may be aware of.

Any sagely etymological insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

A Google search revealed the following:
TOP DEFINITION
hump = To grind one's genitalia in a press-and-release pattern against a particular object or surface; usually associated with an inanimate object.
Perhaps the writer of the sign had something other than slowing traffic on his mind...
