Title: It won't fly but this model will float- Ken Coleman's sailboat
Post by: Frank v B on October 24, 2022, 09:01:43 PM
Purchased this sailboat model from the Ken Coleman estate.  It is 25" long.  It's cute. :)

Made the following changes:
- replaced the old Kraft rudder servo with a new standard size one. The old servo appears to have been from the '70's (3 wire).
- removed the ESC that was used as a power source for the electronics.  Made a 4 cell AAA battery pack (4.8 v) to power the system
- changed the rigging so the mast can be taken down or installed in 2 minutes.  Ken kept it rigged all the time.

For those sailors in the club (incl. BJ, Rob D., Bill Q) note that the keel is about amidships.  It is usually in the 35-40% range.  I suspect it will have lee helm based on the mast position.

Guy and I are conspiring to go sailing in the next week.

Frank
